  1. Here’s Bernie’s take on it:
    Sanders speaks out against chorus

While acknowledging some of the problems that China represents, he warns agains xenophobia and bigotry, and especially notes the danger of getting into a new Cold War.
    —————–

(The US faces a different situation from the one that we need to deal with here in AO/ NZ. China is far more entrenched over here than there – Eg, they have not had any former spy trainers in Congress… And I doubt many of their fundamental assets have already been sold to China. But the same basic warnings apply, as Bernie is giving to the US, I think.)

  2. As you importune, Bomber: “IF THIS IS TRUE?”

But with an informant or defector who will never be identified?

China’s mistake is that it did not invent an American defector (before the Americans did) who ‘came out’!

    We shall never know

  3. No, this shit is still; unsubstantiated conjecture to the sound of sabre rattling. “Rumours are swirling” about a spy who has “reportedly defected to the US”. That is gossip, not solid information, let alone evidence.

Still, even if there are, as yet, no direct indications of a viral release from this particular institute; biosecurity monitoring in laboratory settings is certainly a valid concern. There was a (possibly facetious) offer from a Chinese spokesperson a while back (don’t have a link on me), to allow greater international access to their labs in return for other countries allowing WHO inspection of their own biohazard sites. That’s not going to happen, especially in Russia, but demanding unilateral disclosure from China isn’t getting very far either.

    1. I’m pretty sure that offer was directed at a reciprocal arrangement with US’s Fort Detrich , and Russia was not mentioned. not in the article I read anyway.

  4. First cases in china were apparently from early October(2nd) but it was early December before doctors and Nurses and the Powers that be realised they had a pandemic on their hands . In the meantime people from Wuhan were travelling all over the world.

  5. Political defectors from any country, particularly those who are publicly displayed, have as much cachet as a jailyard snitch turning Police evidence in my books.

Any “truth” in such circumstances is likely a chance find really in the steaming pile of opportunism that usually envelops such people. Even if there was a lab escape, the world wide effects still have to be dealt with. COVID 19 is not going anywhere no matter what or who caused it.

Scientists and Health Officials in the majority, even in msm, are still not committing to the lab escape theory that US imperialism desperately wants to provide a narrative for hostility and shoring up their end of capitalism for a bit longer.

  6. A lot of people are ignoring the pretty obvious conclusion, because of economics FFS. Money the route of all evil is blinding so many. It’s been a no brainer since the beginning. But just like Winnie the poo there will never be the right evidence. Agree with remo.

  7. Didn’t a defector from Iraq tell the US about WMD’s. Look how that turned out.

  8. I do wish people would stop using the word ‘theory’ to describe mere speculation. The hierarchy goes – speculation (surmise with little to no evidence) to hypothesis (a set of connected ideas that try to explain some known facts) to theory which is a comprehensive, evidence-based explanation of the facts and events which also goes further and predicts other events/facts.

My explanation is a bit crudes, but i will do for now.

Also, the speculation about the Wuhan leak has already been comprehensively debunked, so please stop the bullshit.

    1. Nonsense. There is a mountain of evidence now and continues to mount that is far more likely to have originated from the lab. There is virtually nothing to prove it came from the wet market. Nothing
