  1. Currently the heads of three American universities are having to quit their jobs because of freedom of speech issues, addressed by a congressional inquiry which is available for public viewing. Onnce illustrious Harvard University now ranks as the worst American academic institution for freedom of speech.

Seeing these women defending the same issues being played out here concerning Hamas, with seemingly-agreed upon defences, and apparently with teams of lawyers to coach them, lifts the level of debate to a level beyond the ability and intellectual capacity of inane New Zealand Green Party politicians inappropriately wearing Keffiyehs in Parliament and believing themselves to be other than posturing adolescents blithely unaware not just of the complexities of history, but the horrific contemporary tragedy and its global dynamics.

Academic freedom has been booted out of our universities, and obviously to their and their students’ detriment, and it’s messier here with it being unrealistically tied to “ principles” of the Treaty just the way that media funding is. Hopefully the tide turning in the USA will reach these shores.

  2. I agree with your thoughts but also wonder if Christianity gets a bad rap because many of the so-called Christians do not reflect what their claimed example called them to be. I can appreciate that the God that Martyn often describes is the one that many Christians appear to worship however that is not even remotely close to the God I believe in.
You are correct in calling for unity among the left although you only need to read John 17 to see that unity is an old idea, your writing style even follows the pattern of the book of Revelation in that it often uses parts of previous articles as Revelation contains about 30% from other parts of scripture.
I guess this is a bit off-topic but like you I see the problems in society & believe that what could be a major part of the answer is unfairly represented currently. Free choice is absolutely vital & it obviously involves a free exchange of information (I do think society is allowed to have rules around extreme subjects though, not my opinions but society) so lets see what others think.

    1. Bonnie. “ Free choice is absolutely vital & it obviously involves a free exchange of information,” 100%.
Once freedom of speech, or of expression is controlled, freedom of thought processes is controlled. This is inimical to both democracy and a liberal society. It’s still incredible to me, that a Human Rights Commissioner, Paul Hunt, staffer from Waikato University, seemingly objected to Kelly-Jay Keen, aka Posy Parker, trying to enable our Kiwi women to have voices and played a role in silencing her, as did media hacks, and serving Labour and Green politicians.

Those shocking scenes of terrorism and violence at Albert Park were not just anti-women, but prioritised the non scientific transgender ideology which is now part of the school curriculum, and potentially criminalises concerned parents as well as confusing and damaging innocent children. There is and was no good reason for shutting women up in the same way that politicians tried to do hiding in the Beehive and refusing to engage with the Parliamentary protestors and “exchange information,” and instead succeeded in escalating the situation to dangerous levels.

  3. Why you would want to ban arseholes from talking is beyond me. Let them talk then give them both barrels ( verbally only of course) straight back at them. Most of the meatheads people are worried about don’t have any real arguments of substance. They are just morons that need to be exposed.

I would say though Martyn some of the suppression of opinion previously was not about woke it was about money. As in don’t trigger the Chinese with criticism. Don’t upset the fee paying students or the Chinese administration.

  4. Every voter has a tipping point before they decide to vote for the other side and for several women I know this issue was trans rights vs bathrooms/sport/school indoctrination. Sorry wokies but concern for ones biological offspring trump trans rights any day of the week.

  5. they are not the left – they are conservative cucks. this whole woke ideology is based in conservatism.

  6. “the woke have zero interest in philosophically”

Woke is a post-Marxist construct – it sidestepped philosophy because it could not win arguments by whining.

Philosophy is important because it used to teach people how to get people that don’t necessarily like or agree with you to understand your position – all about using objective arguments, real data, and shared moral perspectives. All conspicuously absent among the parasitic class that presently infests the rotting carcass of the Left.

They need to go back to school – and not to hit on impressionable adolescents.
