  1. Winston Peters plays to and appeals to the bigots in NZ. His mentor Muldoon taught his protege` well, when it comes to divisive tactics!

  2. PS: I think you should drop the ageist slurs against Winston Peters.

    Penny Bright.

      1. Oh dear. NZ First supporters upset that their Fearless Leader is not being respected.

Do we doff our caps to The Leader as well? (I suppose a stiff arm salute is optional?)

  3. Seen THIS Martyn?

Any other NZ political party leaders talking about taking on the Aussie banks?

“NZ First’s Winston Peters blames ‘subservient puppetized NZ politicians’ for the lack of a probe into the NZ banking system.

Says Aussie banks are ‘like a hole in the hull of the NZ economy’.”

  4. This must surely rule him out of a coalition with Labour as Labour would never accept this as a bottom line. Essentially a vote of NZ First is now a vote for National

  5. I can’t see how New Zealand First can be in coalition with any other party than National, now that it has made a referendum one of its core electoral platforms. Neither Labour nor the Greens would accept such a referendum.

  6. “…that’s right folks, 85% of the population is going to decide the electoral powers of the indigenous 15%”

To be fair, this is factually how democracy works (and the only way it can work). We all have to stomach whatever the “popular vote” produces. See Donald Trump.
It’s a key reason why I don’t really subscribe to democracy any more. IMO it’s a system designed BY the elites FOR the elites that is generally nothing but a false “left”, “right” or “center” choice (usually defined by meaningless pandering to voters via various “wedge issues”) and so ensuring said elites aren’t hung from lamp posts every so often in the revolutions we deserve (and crave?).

    1. there is no peaceable alternative to democracy…one person one vote.

…and people can be persuaded for good or ill
