  1. The Greens announcement shows why will not be a wealthy country if they get any power . The mine they talk of will provide 500 to 700 well paid jobs plus the royalties on what isxtaken out of the ground

    1. The Green Party are a threat to prosperity in New Zealand that’s a fact.
Australia, a wealthy country, drills and mines as do most wealthy countries in the world.

      1. Here are the real facts. As pointed out, NZ is not a wealthy country because of oil you idiot Bob. Any 3rd former will tell you any wealth comes from farming, agriculture, tourism and previously industry. Please stop lying, you are embarrassing yourself.

          1. Really Bob, will you back up your ridiculous claim with fact or simply give us a dialogue of immature rhetoric? If you can’t, you have shown yourself to have a very low IQ(intelligence quotient).

      2. The difference between Australia and New Zealand is the Australian government is willing to do well by its people. The New Zealand National government is not; that’s a fact, as proven over the past 2 years with its punitive policies.

      3. Bob the nob and Trevor are fucken far right-wing trolls on a lefty site talking shit as usual. NZ doesn’t have a wealth of gold it’s been extracted long ago and if we did, we would become the next Sudan

    2. The Greens say there will be jobs in the “green economy,” such that the above numbers will be swallowed up by the green jobs, so need for mining to create jobs. But the Greens have never laid out what these green jobs will be or look like. And unless green jobs are productive and create money into the economy, how will the country thrive? If a green job relies on just being paid out of the government coffers, then it’s just welfare. Please Greens, outline your vision in detail so that I may consider voting for you.

      1. They have no vision, they are there for the handsome income they could never achieve outside politics.

    3. Once more you show us that your naivety knows no bounds, Trevor.
      Sleep on man, sleep on.

    4. We are not a wealthy country now, Trev!
Check out the poverty stats. Only about 1 in 10 can call themselves ‘wealthy’.
      Dream on, Trev…..

        1. That ‘wealth’ is only the very high house prices we keep setting for the next idiot to buy it from us.

    5. Nonsense Trevor, you talk utter nonsense and let’s not forget the moral costs of lives lost in mining. Tell me Trevor and this is a very important question, what value do you put on a life, a single life?

      1. Does that include the lives lost in the mining of the minerals required to build EVs .
I would point out the mine in question is open cast so the danger is no greater than most gravel pits.

    6. @Trevor.
From (https://www.thepress.co.nz/nz-news/360871439/mining-royalties-labelled-disgrace-communities-struggle)……….”O’Connor said the value of the coal mined from the West Coast last year was about $12b, but the total royalties from coal mining to the Government was $3.2m.”
      That’s 0.02%.
We are ripped off big time. These international mining interests have a track record of privatising the profits and socialising the costs of their dirty work.
The only people getting wealthy are the overseas shareholders.

      1. Correct Jase. It simply makes a complete mockery of any of the childish posts on here supporting mining and your figures support your comment.

      2. The miners get good pay which means they pay high tax and tye economy based around mining engineering trucking etc all pays tax which is needed for our social payments

        1. The miners that come home alive?
Perhaps those rich scamming the tax department with offshore accounts could pay the tax required and we would save lives and the environment Trev the killer.

You are socially flawed and money is your true evil.

  2. Dear me Winston you are the ultimate hypocrite. After propping up this failed CoC for two yrs you belatedly have the audacity to talk about “economic sabotage” – you’ve missed the boat on that one. Your tinfoil-hat brigade don’t want vaccinations as they might ‘harm THEIR bodies’, but you are all happy to harm and pollute OUR land/rivers/atmosphere then walk away and leave the taxpayers to foot the clean-up bill = $millions. I have to ask what planet you are now on you silly little man. You sound desperate. We too are desperate but for the right reasons – to avoid any more environmental damage to our country and planet. We all know which is the moral high ground here and maybe you should look for it too as your twisted logic doesn’t make rational sense to any of us.

  3. You do know that cleaning up after mining has cost this country more than we have EVER earned from it right? It’s a liability not an asset. All the really well paid jobs are for experts from overseas who leave once things start looking dodgy …. ever heard of Peter Whittall????

  4. There should be a federal constitution where the regions can decide for themselves whether to allow mining or not without central government interference.

    1. No problems, although you ought to see a shrink as we all seem to be living rent free in your head.
