Why you can’t vote NZ First if you want a change of Government
The spectacular blunder by Winston Peters (who may or may not have been advised by right wing hate merchants Simon Lusk and Cameron Slater) to set the theft of the Maori Electorate seats as a bottom line means NZ First has ruled itself out of working with the Greens and Labour.
Only the most cross burning , Don Brash loving, banjo twangers amongst the deepest whitest parts of the Provinces Winston is vote hunting in would think stealing the Maori electorates off Maori was a good idea.
You know and I know that Maori will NEVER accept the theft of their electorates by NZ First.
Allowing 85% of the electorate to steal the electoral rights of the indigenous 15% is the sort of thing that gets you dragged in front of the UN!
Winston has by design or foolishness ruled himself out of a Green-Labour Government by demanding Maori lose their electorates. The only way to stop him is by making sure as many progressive voters who actually want a change in Government vote Labour or Greens. Or MANA at a stretch, but if you vote NZ First right now you are effectively handing the Government back to National.
It pains me to see this and say it, but Winston’s racist attack on the Maori electorates using lies and falsehoods has ruled him out of being s serious contender for voters wanting a change of Government this election.
Is there any other country in the world that has separate seats for their indigenous people for the UN to use as a precedent?

Even an educated bigot’s Tommy Robinson such as I can see that this is a bad move by Winston. There is much to like about NZF but this just plays into the hands of National who (unlike NZF) have never won a Maori seat. And do we want to return to the early 90s when every news bulletin began with a Ken Mair protest? Maori seats have been around for a long time without harming anyone and a (usually) sensible conservative like Winnie should know when to leave things alone.
Lefties in Northland face a dilemma.
Only the National candidate and Winston face any real prospect of winning the electoral seat, even though the Labour candidate is imo easily the strongest and most competent candidate standing.
Basically, if you want to prevent National retaking the seat Winston is the best option, then cast your party vote for the left leaning party of your choice.
Sometimes you have to swallow the rat.

After all, considering the devious manipulation of the British that created these, at the time, powerless seats, Maori have done exceptionally well to not just hold them, but grow them

Some NZ First supporters may try to re-spin Peters’ bottom line as a referendum by Maori, for Maori, on the Maori Seats. But Peters has been uncharacteristically crystal clear on this point;

If any referendum is to be targetted at those on the Maori Roll only, then Peters should specifically state so, and not rely on our abilities to “read between the lines” of his vague utterings.
