  1. It’s an interesting question, why the hobbits are so sleepy. Is it ignorance, ineptitude, laziness, naivety, mental health issues, or the fact people have simply given up and decided the odds are against them and it is too much to confront.
My guess is a mixture of some or all of these, depending on who you are, where you live, what you do, whether you own an urban house or a rural land holding, how well educated you are and so on.
But the psychologists know that people can be unhappy but will be content knowing they are better off than others and their position in the chain is more important than actual wealth and wellbeing. Which is why divide and conquer is always the go to tactic of the ruling class of sociopaths and narcissists. Property owners will back the status quo as their property doubles every 10 years so they feel superior even though they are worse off as the money supply and real inflation have more than doubled. Those getting their knee and hip ops done in a private hospital through the public system feel special and have no idea the public system is being destroyed around them.
But one thing is certain. When the NZ Initiative starts spouting about productivity gains then the worker should start getting a bit tetchy, because those productivity gains are never going to be shared with the workers they will be hoarded by the rentier class.
If they really gave a shit about productivity their would be no manufactured housing crisis. Workers would be better educated and trained, processes would be efficient, industries would serve society and the customer and not the investor, workplace culture would benefit the employee and enable them rather than enable bullying and incompetence of middle and senior management, and money would actually be invested in research and development and not more whips to flog the peasants harder.
Virtually all productivity gains in NZ in the last 40 years have arisen from working longer hours. And this is only shown as a productivity gain because of the corrupt way in which it is measured, the same as every statistic now reported which just tells the story someone wants it to tell, which is never the truth.

  2. Who is going to organise the “Freedom – No Congestion Charges” signs on fences all across Auckland the way “No To 3Waters” signs were spread across the country. Can’t see neoliberal Labour and neoliberal Greens running that campaign. They won’t care how regressive the tax is for working people as long as it assists The War On Cars.

  3. TLDR; pay to play society. Coming to an Elysium near you soon. Might have to re-read 1984 and Animal Farm after 45 years just to get a modern perspective on things – sigh!
