  1. Maintaining a global industrial system which is dependent on the burning of fossil fuels is incompatible (in fact entirely at odds) with dealing effectively with climate change and providing coming generations with a planet to live on, which is why ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has been done to mitigate climate change or prepare for its dire effects in the 30 year period since Dr James Hansen gave his dire warning to US lawmakers in 1988.

There will undoubtedly be many calls for ‘urgent action’ while governments (including those of Pacific islands) continue to promote the very factors that cause planetary overheating to accelerate.

Unsurprisingly, with all the fossil fuel burning that ‘everyone’ is so keen on, the atmospheric CO2 has already broken through 409 ppm and the global ice cover is the lowest on record, portending not only climate chaos in the short term but also massive, uncontrollable feedbacks that will destroy life-as-we-know-it long before the end of this century.

  2. The exciting news is that the “poster childs” of rising sea levels,Tuavalu and Kiribati have actually grown substantially, and that they are not actually likely to be overwhelmed by rising sea levels.Dr.Axel -Worner, the ex chief tidal gauge scientist ,would suggest that this confirms his charge that the IPCC and NASA are falsifying data from tidal gauges to mirror computer scientists computer models. The Prime Minister of Tuavalu was decidedly grumpy when he was informed of this latest study, as he has anticipated Foreign Aid for rising sea levels inundating his Islands. Bugger!!!
