What Winston’s false anti-Trans tweet and the anti-Muslim fascist attacks in UK have in common

I think we’ve all witnessed two examples of right wing culture war hate driven by social media.

The terrible anti-Muslim violence that has erupted in the UK based on falsehoods spread online that the killer of 3 girls at a Taylor Swift party was an illegal migrant when they were actually born in the UK is an example of bigotry spreading hate crimes in real time.

We saw the exact same dynamic with the falsehoods that immediately erupted around Algerian boxer Imane Khelif where people with no idea what the fuck they were talking about were telling others that Khelif was a transexual who had somehow slipped through an Olympics loophole and was effectively a man beating ups. woman in the ring, when NONE OF THAT was true.

Fucking none of it!

What part of that is utterly inconceivable to bigots?

Look, you may (as I have been) deeply critical of the way the Trans community have prosecuted their case for equality, but falsely claiming someone is Trans so you can exploit the genuine concerns of competition between men and women for culture war points is pretty gross.

Yes Khelif was disqualified from the 2023 world championships after failing an unspecified gender eligibility test, but there were questions over that gender eligibility test that the Olympics over ruled…

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) determined that both athletes are eligible to compete in the 2024 Paris Games and released a statement saying that “as with previous Olympic boxing competitions, the gender and age of the athletes are based on their passport.”

“We have seen in reports misleading information about two female athletes competing at the Olympic Games Paris 2024,” the statement said, adding that the athletes were victims of a “sudden and arbitrary” decision by the IBA.

…She has 9 losses, she was in the last Olympics and didn’t win and only 11% of her wins are from knock outs!

She is a woman, she’s not Trans! Dragging her into a culture war she didn’t start is a mass delusion on the part of the trans hating community.

That the Deputy Prime Minister is indulging in open lies and disinformation to shit on Trans people should embarrass us all but what that same dynamic of lies has sparked in the UK is far more dangerous and it is only a matter of time before it manifests here.
