What Labour should cut and why it shouldn’t be ANZPM
So Labour have suddenly realised after 5 years that voters want the transformative change they were promise din 2017 rather than bureaucratic restructure.
When you go to the Emergency Department you only care that you are seen quickly and competently, you don’y give 3 shits that the back office has been reformed using Tikanga.
Labour have embarked upon wonk change while pushing solutions that have not been explained.
The activist base of the Left are more interested in cancelling people than ensuring they have housing.
Labour need to refocus on the real issues in front of us and dump the bullshit.
One thing they urgently need to dump is the PSA gold plated holiday scheme.
The Unemployment Insurance, a scam sop constructed by the CTU for the PSA to gain the PSAs support for Fair Pay Agreements, a new universal unionism that would radically undermine the influence of the PSA and it’s cost is $3.5billion per year!
$3.5billion to ensure the Wellington Bureaucratic Class get to tag a 6month taxpayer holiday onto their long list of gold plated perks just to get a Universal Unionism across the line?
Isn’t that an outrageous scam?
Unemployment Insurance doesn’t help workers on the ground floor, this is for the elites!
Hilariously Michelle Duff demands ‘where were the women’when constructing this. Oh ‘Chelle, the women in the Union’s were there, they cooked this up and as Eric Crampton points out,pregnant Woman in the Wellington Bureaucratic Class get to use this most for their pregnancies.
This is obscene middle class welfare for the Wellington Bureaucratic Class, it’s a political sop to the PSA to get the Fair Pay Agreement passed.
The TVNZ/RNZ Merger is however something Labour desperately need.
Our public broadcasting infrastructure desperately needs upgrading, the feral protest on the lawns of Parliament this year showed us what happens when conspiracy theories over run rationality.
We need to take RNZs journalism and inject it into a platform as huge as TVNZ and we need it now!
Look at how the crime debate has been twisted by crime porn clickbait media? It was John Campbell’s journalism that provided actual insight, we need more of his journalism and less of the ratings driven garbage.
ANZPM is an antidote to that.
Dump the PSA Holiday fund, keep ANZPM.
As for what Labour needs to do next year?
The last chance for Left progressive policy is a list of bottom line first 100 day laws in the 2023 election to force Labour into being more Bernie Sanders than cautious Grant and Jacinda.
Here’s what a Labour/Green/Maori Party Government should be committed to passing in the first 100 days of the 2023 election…
1: Feed every kid in NZ a free nutritious and healthy breakfast and lunch at every school using local product and school gardens with parents paid to come in and help. The slow incrementalism touted by favourite public sector for dragger apologist Max Rashbrooke isn’t good enough because the lower middle classes are feeling the same pinch thanks to mortgage rises and universal school lunches and breakfasts would help them as well.
2: 50 000 State Homes for life built using the best environmental and social architecture standards using the public works act to seize land and immediately start building satellite towns using upgraded public transport hubs plus Renter Rights – (rent freezes, end accomodation payments, long term tenancy arrangements)
3: Free public transport plus vast infrastructure upgrade for climate crisis.
4: 30% stake holder in a new Government backed supermarket operation run to provide lower food prices for kiwism better prices for supplies and better conditions for workers.
5: GST off fresh fruit and vegetables and essentials like tampons, toilet paper, condoms, oral health plus a sugar tax.
6: Free Dental services for everyone through public health.
7: Taxation focused on corporations and banks like financial transaction tax, a sugar tax and first $20 000 tax free.
8: Offer nurses, teachers and Drs free education and living allowances in return for bonded time in our health and eduction systems.
…Kiwis have to see a progressive Government ACTUALLY doing shit in the first 100 days or they won’t believe any change is coming and when you consider the economic maelstrom we are entering, the most vulnerable amongst us will be screaming for real change.
If we on the Left don’t offer voters real solutions to their material problems and instead prefer to micro aggression police the latest middle class virtue signals of hate speech, cancelling Comedians and screaming everyone is racist, we are fucked politically in 2023.
We need more real economic solutions on the Left and far less pronoun policing.
We need to be kinder to individuals and crueller to Corporations.

Also immediately decriminalise cannabis – imo it might help split the right.
Cannabis is a good one at little cost to Govt. Various companies are “raring to grow” and it would potentially be a large industry and revenue generator.
Plus previous convictions could be set aside, pending ones cancelled, and the cops do something else. The alcohol industry would not like it one little bit of course.
You’re right again Martyn! You should have told your Labour mates that several years ago – because it’s way too late now! They will preside over a vicious recession in ’23 and deserve to get absolutely smashed in the election.
Just as you say, they’re all middle class, university educated wonks. Few have held down proper careers prior to politics and those that have, hid in the cloistered conditions of a school or university. Even more dangerous, their university education leads them to the false belief that they know how the world works and that they’re intellectual giants. It’s a special kind of uninformed arrogance.
Absolutely – just get on with the merger. Unfortunately I think Willie J. may have blown it, but all is not lost.
As usual, they’ve gone the whole marketing, rebranding and consultant rabbit hole at a cost of $millions! $millions that could have been put to better use like actually producing content.
As someone suggested on here the other day, transfer TVNZ’s assets to RNZ.
Nobody is going to care whether or not RNZ National, Concert FM, Pacific and online services, podcasts et all remain as they are, and whether or not Television 1,2 and Duke have the same logos
And nothing wrong with public service broadcasting indulging in various partnerships either such as RNZ/NEWSROOM’s ‘The Detail’ provided they meet a charter standard.
This whole bloody thing has been stuffed up and been made unnecessarily complicated – the preoccupation with what Josie Pagani has called MUSH in her latest spiel – consultants clipping the ticket for tens of millions, and the rebranders and marketers sticking their oar in without anything of any use produced.
MTS got off the ground finally on what was a $shoestring relatively because there was not too much of that MUSH (despite a few people doing their best to swim in it)
Just get the fuck on with it!
Oh, and if those consultants (supposedly commissioned to provide an ‘independent view’) still want their ticket clippings – that’s fine. They’re obviously not prepared to act in good faith. Not the sort of people We – this team of 5 million – would want to provide any gummint advice in future. Most of it is template driven MUSH anyway.
Hand back some, or most of of the (what is it?) $35 mill.
Then there’s the 4-5 for rebranding is there not?
