This is 100% “Art of the Deal” stuff. Every country is on a deadline now to renegotiate a more equitable trade deal with the US within a 3 month window to avoid their tariff (andthey now know what it’s going to be). It’s extremely clever piece of manoeuvring. Cherry on top: Trump has now made China a pariah, since they are the only country who still got the tariff. This is pure Trumpian deal making (including brutally punishing those who try and call out what they think is a bluff like Xi did).
