I was a child when I first saw Star Wars A New Hope and I still remember the thrill that coursed through my mind when Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia turned every previous female lead in a movie I had seen on its head…
…she wasn’t the helpless Princess waiting for a Knight in shining Jedi armour riding a Millennium Falcon to save her, she was the hero saving them!
It was her fearlessness and courage as that character that changed popular culture in a way that would impact millions of us around the world and that’s why her death has had such a deep impact.
Tina Fey says it best…
…to many of us Princess Leia was the first real embodiment of a feminist character whose equality with men wasn’t even in question. The groundbreakingness of Fisher’s role reset pop culture narratives and gave us a glimpse of a different voice.

I truly loved her as a stunning likeable human being she was all the best a human had to offer and I am stunned and saddened also that she has gone and wonder what caused her early passing?
