Details of Dunedin Hospital cost blow-out can’t be revealed due to ‘commercial sensitivity’
A question mark hangs over exactly how the cost of the new Dunedin Hospital has blown out, with the Government refusing to reveal exact details of how the project could cost $3b, citing commercially sensitivity.
The Dunedin Mayor has attacked these new supposed cost blow outs as a “smokescreen”…
“They’ve added in extra costs to try and cloud the issue. For a start, refurbishment. No one’s ever talked about refurbishment being in the scope of this project, refurbishment of old blocks. I mean, they re talking hundreds of millions for that. ‘They’re talking about car parks – car parks have been long since taken out of the scope of this project… ‘And pathology is the other one that they’re talking about – [it] has already been taken out of scope by the previous government and agreed to by this government when they were in opposition. So it’s a smokescreen.'”

the remainder of the projected blow-out – about $700m – are shrouded in secrecy, as the Government says commercial sensitivities mean it cannot disclose further details.
Infrastructure Minister Chris Bishop previously said construction costs were driven up by issues such as “contaminated ground, piling difficulty, flood level risk, and an extremely constrained construction site”, making it an unattractive project….
But Labour associate health spokesperson Tracey McLellan has accused the ministers of adding “every optional extra under the sun to drive the cost up to suit their narrative”.
“A car park and pathology service were not part of the publicly funded scope.”
…so as to manufacture a crisis to justify privatisation…

We as a country really need to get our sh*t together on Health, Education & Housing they are bottom line Human Needs, Maslow Hierachy of Needs details this. Or do we just hand the country over to David Seymore and the Atlas Network to run the country, which appears to be what is happening ???

The government won’t support the health system but are willing to underwrite new housing development, the next change will be allowing more wealthy immigrants to buy the houses built as they attempt to keep the property housing Ponzi rolling. Now the government is going into building private houses and clearly are looking to privatize all school buildings .In the mean time they are increasing unemployment and lowering the tax take .I also the magic 3 billion figure has been rolled out again with regard to the school buildings .We need 3000 new class rooms so how much do they expect it to cost .So now we have 3 billion for the ferries ,hospital and now school buildings .But we gave 3 billion to land lords which would have built that hospital as well as the one at nelson
