  1. “You vote National, you get ACT Far Right Policy.”
Sold! The only thing I dislike about ACT policy is raising the retirement age which I think will cost them votes. They should lower the age of KiwiSaver funds access by the same amount that they raise the retirement age to balance it out in my opinion.

    1. They should raise the retirement age for Boomers only then put it back down for next generations. The boomers have got some major societal payback to achieve as reparations for the mess they have caused.

      1. Not all Boomers are responsible or are the same.

I am so sick of that trope. Some us knowingly and willingly supported others and did the right thing (Not buying investment properties because of the social harm it caused, always voting for the underdog, donating time and money to others) even though we were wealthy enough not to do so.

We also largely came from working class stock so we worked hard for our money. Working 2 jobs was the norm in both my and my parents generations (personally and for others). An average paying job during the week and 3 or 4 nights a week tending bar. That was how you saved for your first house and often how you paid the mortgage back in the days of 15 – 20% interest.

Things are even harder now because of the rubbish governments we have endured over the last 20 years. But still for most a dedication to hard work and a foregoing of many things we have assumed we must have, most things are still achievable with planning, wider thinking and a little luck.

      2. “Boomers” has really become a perjorative term and I deeply resent it. We had a social contract with the government of the day that our taxes paid for our super, education and health care. The state provided the infrastructure and financial institutions so that we could save for our first home – and the majority have only ever had the one home that they are living in. Douglas and Prebble sold us out and created a neoliberal state, gleefully continued by successive Nat governments.

      3. Swings and roundabouts. So-called “boomers” worked hard and generated a lot of wealth. 60’s and 70’s NZ governments borrowed heavily especially after the European Common Market came into play in the early 70s and UK and Europe export markets declined significantly. This all had to be paid back and resulted in significant belt-tightening in the 80s and 90s. To blame the average person born between 1946 and 1965 who is retired now is petty and could come back to bite millennials and zoomers in the future based on their general lack of productivity in my opinion.

  2. Labour are National, just a lot more useless. That’s why we, who thought they were actually going to change things, have given up on them. But voting for Nat/ACT is not the go to and I doubt there will be a return to Labour.

Either not voting or voting an alternative depending on what’s available on the day is more likely. And I suspect floating voters are returning to National is all that is happening.

And the Greens as an alternative? God, no. They are at risk of self cancellation!

  3. You can always move to Aus no one is forcing you to stay here against your will.

  4. If the choice is National with Luxon as leader plus Act than do nothing except break promises Labour plus invisible Greens and may be the racist Maori Party I will go for National and Act.
Why do you keep bringingLuxon’s Christianity into the equation beats me ,Does it make if him evil. Do you know or care what religion any of the other leaders follow .
The impact Act have will depend on the size of his popular vote and that s the way it should be .The facts are once in power many parties change their stance as can be seen with Labour but it was the same with Naional .I remember pre 2017 election going to an anti TTPA with the Labour speak saying how terrible it was but once elected signed on . One plus to Greens is they do try and stick to their promises when allowed.

  5. Aren’t you all forgetting one consideration here…..NZ First, thanks to Mallards tantrum’s gets 8% votes from Labour. National then has a choice who it forms a Govt with and might not need ACT

  6. ACT is and always will be an abomination and Frankie if what you say is true, why isn’t ACT polling in the 30’s if they don’t scare people with their policies?

  7. The only question is if Seymour doesn’t drain the swamp but sells it.

  8. The Baby Boomers have been both a blessing and a nuisance to the economy over the years. It is the same with any Western country and with any generation. There are always some repercussions for the economy, for the environment, and social changes, etc.

  9. You vote for the left you get economically shafted and lectured by rich intellectual snobs who use faux left wing talking points to hide their classist hatred of the working class.

You vote for the rich you get economically shafted but get to watch and laugh as the right attempts to dismantle the power of the rich classist woke snobs and orgasm over their tantrums.

Pretty easy choice for the many many many many working class, poor , Maori and pasifika and Asian voters who are by and large socially conservative.

I personally would die laughing watching the classist wokes panic attacks as they get purged from the bureaucracy.

But I will never vote national or act.

    1. Aren’t they squirming over at The Standard on the horror of ACTs policy on downsizing and closing certain government departments.
These people (the PMC) have harassed the working class, the “river of filth” mercilessly from their woke pulpit, even down to the cars they drive.

Now if ACT gets in the PMC might just see what the public actually thinks of them and how important their (invariably) non critical jobs are.
      Not much, not very.
Tiger Mountain seems to be inciting actual violence against Seymour.

      1. If it wasnt for the PMC you so despised, you would still be property of your husband, and he would be beating you every single day.
In Christianity, it is a husband’s duty to beat his wife.

        1. millsy you crack me up, but I do worry about your mental health.

    2. So you want abortion and homosexuality (plus divorce) recriminalised?
Building prisons to jail transgender people will be expensive.

  10. The problem with labour is that they could’t run a piss up in a brewery, apart from giving away free beer, and and a sausage sizzle. Then get someone else to pay for it…The more David Seymour puts his policy out the more its obvious he’s a monoculturalist, needs to do an OE and get some cultural training. He will score plenty of own goals, we are not that stupid. National will get in and what an economic mess they will inherit. Nicola willis will be a great finance minister…..

  11. Vote for Labour and vote for the party who enriched Luxon more than his wildest dreams.

  13. When National and ACT get in power, you wont get a payrise for the rest of your career. No sick leave, paid holidays, over time, nor any right to join a union. The same pay level, for the rest of your life.

But rents, power prices, health care costs (US style health will be imposed), all across the board.

  14. Zimbabwe? Being a tad dramatic aren;t ya? Perhaps you are a retired Remuera thespian…
