Northland has always been considered the most corrupt police force in NZ.

No plans to change evidence storage
The police have no plans to review systems for checking evidence in and out of police hands despite a former top cop today admitting stealing and dealing drugs stored at a police station.
Earlier today, former Whangarei police officer Mike Blowers, 50, pleaded guilty in the High Court at Whangarei to stealing methamphetamine from police storage units and passing it on to a dealer for profit.

Er, cough…Mike Sabin…and many other bent ones. One ex plod I know beat a suspect after the vid was turned off, but did not realise with the tech being used audio was still on…IPCA got out the damp bus ticket.
It is a lawless frontier in the Far North in terms of what the cops get away with. Pulled over for driving while Māori, DNA and photos illegally taken, excessive bail checks, it just goes on.
Yes, meth is prevalent up here as in much of NZ actually, which requires social solutions not cop secondments.

Don’t bet covidpa – I have read in Canada/USA can’t remember, that being a brown cop doesn’t allow different behaviours. The training and culture must result in equality of behaviour from all the force. If one differs, then the system breaks down and in a dangerous situation being a ‘bleeding heart’ won’t stop you being injured.
