Wellington mayoralty: New polling has Andrew Little ahead
New polling has revealed Wellingtonians are favouring Andrew Little as the frontrunner for the capital’s next mayor.
A Curia poll of 750 Wellingtonians was commissioned by rates reform lobby group Common Ground Aotearoa and shows out of 540 prospective voters, 30% are backing Little, followed by Ray Chung at 13%, Diane Calvert at 11%, Karl Tiefenbacher at 6% and Alex Baker at 4%.
The poll, which was done over the phone and online, ran between August 22 to 28 and has a margin of error of +/- 3.6%.
Previous Curia polling before Little had announced his mayoral bid had Ray Chung in the lead with 30% support.
Since then, Chung’s campaign has been plagued by scandal after the Herald revealed he sent a lewd sex and drugs gossip email to other councillors about Mayor Tory Whanau.
The email scandal saw a number of candidates quit his Independent Together ticket and cost him a major backer with rich-list philanthropist Sir Mark Dunajtschik publicly condemning Chung’s behaviour.
The truly shocking bit of the latest Wellington Poll is that a creep like Ray Chung has 13% support of Wellingtonians!

Ray Chung stays in the race after salacious sex claims, believes neighbour’s story
Incumbent councillor Ray Chung plans to stay in Wellington’s mayoral race, despite the campaign having a culture that he characterises as toxic and hateful.
“If this is what elections are like, well, I am learning something new and have less faith in human nature as a result,” he said.
Chung hit national headlines on Friday morning after an email he wrote in 2023 describing an alleged sexual encounter involving Mayor Tory Whanau was released.
He sent the email to the private accounts of councillors Tony Randle, Nicola Young and John Apanowicz, after hearing the story from a neighbour. One of those recipients sent it on, although Chung declined to name who. Whanau, who shared the email with the NZ Herald, has vehemently denied the contents of the email.
There is simply no place in NZ politics for these kids of sexual political smear jobs. This arsehole has no evidence whatsoever of the disgusting smears he’s made against Whanau, we saw the exact same kind of smear against Benjamin Doyle.
Terrible allegations of a sexual nature with zero evidence.
Ray Chung and all the Right Wing Hate Trolls he associates with should be considered radioactively toxic and they should be viewed with total contempt.
To make up these allegations about peoples sexuality with no evidence whatsoever is just so fucking ugly.
Look, there are plenty of legitimate ares we can disagree civilly with Tory Whanau over, this kind of lewd garbage is disgraceful and we should have zero tolerance for it.
If you are in Wellington, you have an obligation to confront Ray Chung anytime you see him in public.
If he actually wins, because of Wellington’s STV system, it will truly speak volumes about what a city of Arseholes Wellington has become.

WTF clearly the arse holes of the world have been embolden by the toxic leaders in central government .Not only have they tanked the economy they have lowered social standards to the bottom of the sespit .
Although Chung polling that high may seem incredible, don’t underestimate the self interest of the grand dames, old luvvies and the feckless centrists who think they “own” the city.
Some of the worst people you could ever encounter, dripping with blind privilege and unable to handle any attempts to improve the city.
They want Wellington preserved in amber, but also want to be able to park their cars wherever they want, whenever they want, for free.
Even though the inner city street network consists of glorified goat tracks and porters lanes.
They want ridiculously fucked old buildings retained, even when they are uninhabitable, at huge cost to rate payers, because their great aunt sewed pinafores inside it in 1908.
Want Newtown / Mount Vic etc…to retain their “character” but would never consider living in any of the shitty mold infested damp villas they want to keep.
But also don’t want to pay higher rates, but want everything to coast along smoothly.
And then complain about the leaking pipes which are the results of decades of “keeping rates down”.
But these absolute numpties will blame cycle lanes for whatever it is they are upset about this week. They’re basically spoiled children with too much time on their hands, ideal supporters for Chung.
The city would be greatly improved by bulldozing most of it into the harbour and starting again.
Here in the Shitty of Fails if we had Ray Chung running for mayor even I wouldn’t vote for him.
He comes across as a typical Run of the Mill Misogynistic Attention Seeking Sort of Person that takes Gossip as being Gospel. Not quite an Ideal Candidate for being a mayor of a city with that sort of thought pattern.
He was ONLY too eager to Run Down and have a Go at a Female who just so happens to be currently Mayor of Wellington. At no time whilst he was being told this gossip and if the conversation Actually Took Place did he think about the ramifications of what was being told to him. Instead in a Pique of Arrogance and Upmanship he went Gung Ho and attacked the Mayor of Wellington Tory Whanau without any Real Evidence but something based on Hear-Say.
Does Wellington Really Need a Mayor like that???!!! Would any female in Wellington and especially in the Council feel safe in expressing anything that has happened Behind Closed Doors in Wellington???
I don’t think Chung is Adequate as a mayor of Anywhere and that includes Wellington, Auckland or any NZ town or city.
He has allowed chauvinism to cloud any judgment and that is not mayoral quality let alone being voted for.
And by the way I will be voting for the next mayor of Auckland and it certainly Is Not for the Current One who preferred to play tennis instead of fronting up to the Drongo Journalists during the Auckland Floods.

Calvert and Karl are part of the Wellington KKK (Khandallah, Karori, Kelburn). See above about blind privilege and preservation in amber.
Karl runs the Eis chain of cafes, where all the employees are still in high school and they quit within 6 months because his business model is built on that. Happy to exploit them but doesn’t want them to have the vote, even though they’re paying PAYE.
Avoid both, they’re shit.

Little has already been anointed by the media. He pretty much was from the moment he announced he was running. There are other candidates apart from him and Ray Chung but you wouldn’t know it.
