Winston Peters: ‘Careless’ immigration ‘transforming cities’, Nigel Farage’s Reform ‘compelling’
Winston Peters is concerned with the number of migrants entering New Zealand and is observing an “alarming development” overseas where “careless immigration policies” are “transforming cities” and “changing centuries of development and social life”.
The New Zealand First leader, who refers to his party as “nationalist” while his coalition partners are “globalists”, believes Kiwis are increasingly worried about immigration issues.
“We intend to turn that problem into a success story, so people do understand that, when you’re coming here, there are some fundamental things you need to sign up to,” he said. “If you don’t want to sign up to it, don’t come.”

YES, mass immigration policies pushed by National nd Labour have caused huge social damage to NZ.

Rather than grow the population base here with low cost ECE and better parental leave, we just imported 400 000 people since 2017 and called that a solution.

What the heck Winston? Greenpeace queries NZ First support for Seymour’s Overseas Investment Bill
Greenpeace is asking NZ First leader Winston Peters what the heck his party is doing supporting an amendment Bill which could lead to greater corporate control of Aotearoa.
NZ First has supported ACT leader David Seymour’s amendment Bill to the Overseas Investment Act, through its first reading. Submissions on the Bill closed this week.
Greenpeace spokesperson Gen Toop says: “ACT is trying to change the Overseas Investment law to make it easier for multinational corporations to buy up and exploit conservation land, lakebeds, coastal zones, wāhi tapu sites and other sensitive land across Aotearoa.”
“Shockingly, ACT is even trying to remove the mandatory requirement that the Government check whether a corporation has been involved in serious criminal activity before giving them access to New Zealand’s sensitive land and natural resources.”
The Act currently mandates that the Government apply the Benefit to New Zealand test and Investor Test before giving consent to the sale of land that is classified as “sensitive” and allows them to decline consent if either of these tests are failed.
Sensitive land is outlined in the Act and includes conservation areas, lake beds, marine and coastal zones, offshore islands, wāhi tapu and other culturally significant sites, as well as land adjoining these areas.
The Bill proposes that instead of applying a public benefit and investor test, the Government applies a narrower “national interest” test which Greenpeace says completely fails to guarantee any meaningful consideration of environmental, cultural, or public interest values.
“NZ First currently supports a Bill that would make it easier for multinational corporations to loot and destroy Aotearoa and funnel the profits to offshore shareholders leaving New Zealanders to deal with the mess – polluted rivers, drained aquifers and degraded ecosystems,” Toop says.
The Bill also scraps the requirement that water quality and sustainability be assessed before allowing overseas interests to extract, bottle and sell New Zealand’s freshwater.
“NZ First claims to put New Zealand first. But this ACT party Bill firmly puts offshore corporations first and New Zealanders last. Winston Peters should withdraw his party’s support for the Bill before it’s too late.”
…on one hand Winston is damning immigration WHILE making it easier for them to gain entry and impact NZs economic sovereignty!?!
This is like Trump’s Epstein hypocrisy and how it is tearing apart his MAGA base.
Look, Winston appeals to redneck, anti-vax, anti-Trans, anti-immigrant NZers, and once they realise he’s actively easing laws that will allow, “multinational corporations to loot and destroy Aotearoa and funnel the profits to offshore shareholders leaving New Zealanders to deal with the mess”, they will turn on him the way MAGA has turned on Trump.
Winston can claim he’s as much a bigot as Farage, but he’s changing Overseas investment to allow the very worst kind of immigration to rob us blind!
Before they were a culture war grievance party, NZF built themselves as protectors of NZ’s economic sovereignty, but bashing immigrants while cuddling trans-nationals is a rank hypocrisy.

In the mid 1990s Winston was going on about the Asian invasion to garner votes from his red neck voter base .Since that time he has been in two governments .During those 6 years he never said a word about immigration or took any steps to slow or prevent it .
Now he is ranting but is allowing his greedy mates to fast track immigrants because they have 5 million to buy Luxons house when he leaves .
They are all his American tobacco mates .
Winston’s supporter’s love their sea and lake views, their fishing, yachting and golfing, their motorhome holidays and flying to Q’town, access to everything, their peace and quiet and free health and education for their grandchildren, and their grandies being here rather than in Australia etc. etc. etc.
If they allow these legislative changes, they’ll find themselves locked out of their own ‘best kept secret places’ and answerable to some foreign magnate who has the govt’s ear more than they do. Their views and fishing will be sullied, their golf club full and their grandchildren dragged off to Oz by disillusioned parents.
If they allow this general gerrymandering of immigration, elections, race relations, lobbying, workplace relations, and all the rest of the disastrous law changes Winston and his govt. is pushing, they will find themselves competing with people much wealthier than them. They think they are sitting pretty, they ain’t.

Immigration is not to be sold to NZ piecemeal – we have ‘enjoyed’ an immigration rate times that which triggered riots in France & Brexit in the UK, and cranking that right down would be a priority of any party that gave a fig about the effect on wages – ie not Labour, who only care about middle class concerns like identity politics.
The golden ticket is a separate issue – just the usual spineless economic treachery that is National’s raison d’etre. No improvement can be expected on that front until the public make a few examples of these flashy trousered misanthropists.
