The political damage Tim Jago has caused ACT will be minimal while existential
Now the truth is out, we on the Left are going to have to take a big breath and come to grips that the political damage from all of this will be minimal in terms of support for ACT.
That will be as hard to swallow as ACTs school food hate crime.
The truth is that if you support ACT through its deplorable Treaty Principles Referendum, wholesale attack on workers and their corporate take over of democratic power, you won’t flinch when the President is found guilty of historic sex acts.
You are still voting ACT.
However, while the political damage will be minimal to ACT’s Polling support, it will be existential in terms of the debate now because there are legitimate questions over how the Party acted once the allegations were made…
…and more damagingly, the manner in which his name was kept secret over the election period while ACT were campaigning on harsher penalties for crime…
…ACTs President being found guilty of historic sex crimes while keeping his name secret during the election WHILE ACT were campaigning on crime?
Hypocrisy is the kiss of death in politics and while ACTs polling will remain high, the middle voter from National and the non voter from 2023 are all picking a new Political Party to support because political hypocrisy motivates like resentment.

And an example of that was Katherine Ryan’s soft spoken easy going interview with Seymour this morning on Radio N.Z….
It was such a soft cock ‘interview’ that you could easily been mistaken by thinking that a close family
member had just died rather than challenging the leader of a political party who deceived the public by not standing down its manager,( who had a serious sex complaint levelled against him), while an investigation ensued.
Seymour chose to keep him on, referencing some pathetic excuse about taking advice from a lawyer, because a scandal of such a serious nature around an election would have been like a wrecking ball .
Where was TV3 Political Reporter Jenna Lynch when all this was going on??

Seymour brazenly on Radio NZ this morning absolutely no shame that he harbored a predator that was first flagged in 1999. He would do nothing different and absolutely no apology to his victims.
There’s probably some legal action which could be taken against David if he knew about Jagos’ dreadful activities and did nothing about it. Libertarians think that anything goes, but most New Zealanders are decent wholesome persons.
So to summarise a complaint was made about this Jago paedo and ACT did what they could to not address this as they should i.e. by immediately standing him down etc while the police investigate?
Personally I think this has been swept under the carpet because there is obviously big money behind these 2 men. Remember when JA had to put up with the youth camp sex scandal headlines for months, just as she was PM and there was no let up.name suppression enabled act to get into power and it’s been conveniently bought for the last 12 months as well so one wonders what is so special about Jago and this long term name suppression because all he is is a volunteer lifeguard and they are two a penny
I don’t know much about the facts but according to Wikipedia he resigned as ACT president in January 2023 way before the election. If that’s the case, it’s not much of a story.

The offending by Jago occurred over 20 years ago when Seymour was a teenager and Jago was a member of a surf lifesaving club.

Seymour was alerted to the allegation of sexual misconduct around election time when both he and Jago were working alongside each other for ACT and chose to sit
on his hands.
He could have, and should have, immediately stood him down pending the outcome of further enquiries.
Instead he allowed a accused sexual predator to stay on in his job because tge fallout would have been catastrophic.
For Seymour to somehow get all upitty and aggressive by dismissing the whole thing, by saying people shouldn’t politicise it, demonstrates once again what a useless, corrupt, moraless, hopeless case he is and he should be nowhere near the
corridors of power….
It’s now pretty clear that his time in office is close to being up.
