    1. If you don’t own some sort of large local company, why would anyone want to stay? Nearly all the remaining working class people would probably leave if they could.

Martyn is right that the corporate press “keeps this country stupid”, but his prediction of the nation “plunging into naked conflict” is probably inevitable. If the politicians and the press barons won’t tell the truth, and neither represent popular opinion or allow any real changes, it is only a matter of time before the citizens revolt and the whole system comes crashing down. (But most young people don’t want to waste their best years waiting for the befuddled little villagers to wake up, and simply try to leave the country.)

    2. At least that way you’d get a Labour Government not bent on destroying the country.

  1. Let’s just become another state of Australia and make it there problem.

Then the Aussie Labour Government will plunder our minerals for Electric car battery s and set up Nuclear power stations. Have stamp duty and higher wages .

We might have no choice anyway if geo political/ climate events cause sudden change .

  2. If by some miracle the left win the next election they can probably win the next 10 because anyone with any skills, drive or wealth will have left and the remainers will be living in a colder Fiji . Apartheid and all

  3. Seems doable at first glance. We have tatty components to make a sound government from, but the boat might float, even if we have to keep bailing.

  4. I think it’s a given that Labour are a bunch of muppets by and large. I don’t think people realise how much impact covid had on us and whoever had been in power it would not have been pretty. The co governance issue is just a 1ZB ratings pitch on the back of the original architects, National, developing an allergic reaction by going all Don Brash rather John Key ( and Labour sitting like idiots not explaining anything). It’s all an unfortunate distraction from the likes of Luxon wanting water infrastructure back in council hands even though by far the majority of those councils said something has to change. That said Labour have got plenty wrong ( though getting rid of 20 DHBs was not one of them).

Now that we are moving on and going to a Nat Act government what have you actually heard that will get the country going in the “right direction”? I am happy to have a tax cut though I doubt we end up with a ACT 20% flat tax. What else? Crime? Please, bigger prisons? Maybe some sentencing changes have a positive impact. Environmentally we are f’d. That bloke at ACT from fedrated farmers just talks rubbish about Indian dairy production. Not sure what that has to do with nitrates in your water and shit in your rivers, which goes into our harbours. And Charlton Hestons love Nicole whatshername! I like that she hunts and provides food for her family but some her talking points, from the tough on crime party no less, don’t make any sense. if NAT Act puts a rocket up the arse of some of the public service that could be a good thing. Not sure what else.

  5. If you love public services, high wages, and public housing, you will vote Labour.

Obviously people here hate those things.

  6. The only way to stop ACT/National/NZ First Right wing Government is vote Te Pāti Māori
