National burying Parliament in ‘spam’ – Hipkins
National’s being accused of spamming Parliament, its MPs lodging more than 6000 parliamentary questions in the last month.Nearly 6300 questions have been submitted, with the majority asking what events or meetings a minister had attended on a particular date.
In contrast, Newsroom says only 964 were submitted by the Labour-led Opposition in the month following the 2014 election.Labour Leader of the House Chris Hipkins says the Opposition’s got its priorities wrong.
“What we’ve seen from the National Party in the last few weeks is the parliamentary equivalent of spam mail, and as a result I don’t think they’re going to get much useful information out of it,” he told Newshub.

This is a Party that had no problems whatsoever looking down the lens and lying straight to the people of NZ about an $11.7billion dollar fiscal hole that never existed. This is a Party who had no problems allowing suicide to skyrocket, to allow incarcerations to skyrocket, to allow homelessness to skyrocket, home affordability, student debt, poverty and mental health setbacks to intensify all in order to keep a property bubble afloat and tax cuts for the rich.
That they are now using Opposition to stymie and strangle any change should surprise no one.
National will use the gains they have on Select Committees to stop and slow down the entire legislative agenda of the new Government.
National will call on massive public engagement from their voters and their financial backers to slow down the Select Committee process and scream about democracy being under attack if they aren’t allowed to have every Farmer and rich property owner in front of the Select Committee to complain about any new law.
The mainstream media will of course pick up this new narrative of National being Democracy’s white knight and rather than highlighting their hypocrisy will unquestioningly spread this view of National.
Winning against National is one thing, governing over them while the mainstream media is totally hostile towards you is another and at this stage it doesn’t seem the Labour Party, Greens or NZ First have the behind the scenes think tank who can game play these scenarios out well enough to not get tripped up.
I don’t think anyone inside the new Government yet understands how National will turn the Select Committees and the actual process of process against the new Government.
They better start appreciating it, and soon!
Labour must investigate all the records of what financial dealings these PM’s inside the national Party got up to in the last nine years as ministers also.
A team of investigators need to comb through every financial report and tresury document to find what these creeps did in Government instead of annswering sillly made up questions from the opposition, as soon as they find some big scandals they need to announce this in the press and then shame Nats by their actions and put a stop to the sillly road blocks national are attempting to jam parliament with.
I knew the National Party were scum, I knew they were inherently dishonest and that born to rule describes their reason for being but to be honest, this shit does surprise me.
I have read some of the 6300 questions asked in the last month, in the last month no less and it’s so bad it unbelievable. Take that out for a year and its going to be 75000 questions approximately, that 20 odd Ministers will have to find the time to answer. And that does not include the never ending questions to the answers.
One of the low lights is Nationals Dr Shane Reti, literally taking the piss out of suicide. Asking the same question over and over but in a slightly different way eg:
“What assurances will the minister give for Northland children at suicide risk during the upcoming school holidays?”
“What services are in place for Northland children at suicide risk?”
“What services are in place for Northland children at suicide risk during the upcoming school holidays?”
Same again for Whangarei. Probably same again for any other town in Northland.
What was National doing about suicide? Not too much I recall!

Apart from fuckwits like Dr Reti, clearly this kind of mindless questioning/waste of taxpayers money can never be answered. It’s not meant to be answered. Each answer will generate several more questions. Its purpose is to ensure the government cannot function properly if at all, not because of National care and not because they worry about democracy but because they are bitter, nasty, petulant brats who are not fit public office who don’t like the fact they LOST.
This is not a game, this is our country. Because National cannot get over themselves to realise they lost does not justify this kind of sabotage on any government.
If this is the National Party for their time in opposition, then its time to change the law to stop this because we don’t vote in governments to waste time with this. End of subject.
