Greta Thunberg faces harsh treatment in Israeli Custody, she told Swedish officials
Activist Greta Thunberg told Swedish officials she has been subjected to harsh treatment in Israeli custody after being detained from a flotilla carrying aid to Gaza.
An official visited Thunberg in an Israeli prison, and said the activist claimed she was detained in a cell infested with bedbugs with insufficient amounts of food, according to the Guardian who saw correspondence sent by the Swedish foreign ministry to people close to Thunberg.
“She informed of dehydration. She has received insufficient amounts of both water and food,” the email seen by the Guardian read.
“She also stated that she had developed rashes which she suspects were caused by bedbugs. She spoke of harsh treatment and said she had been sitting for long periods on hard surfaces,” it said.

Israeli forces reportedly took photographs of the 22-year-old being forced to hold flags, said the correspondence and two fellow flotilla activists.
Turkish activist Ersin Çelik, who was also detained by Israeli forces, said Thunberg was assaulted as a warning to others, according to Anadolu.
“They dragged little Greta [Thunberg] by her hair before our eyes, beat her, and forced her to kiss the Israeli flag. They did everything imaginable to her, as a warning to others,” he said after his release on Saturday.
Journalist and flotilla participant Lorenzo D’Ago said Thunberg was “wrapped up in the Israeli flag and paraded like a trophy”, according to Anadolu.
Two other detainees, Hazwani Helmi from Malaysia and American citizen Windfield Beaver, told Reuters they saw Thunberg being shoved and forced to wear an Israeli flag.
“It was a disaster. They treated us like animals,” Helmi told the agency.
…Greta is a hero, abusing her is an egregious attempt to break her spirit.
