  1. Yes, yes and yes!
And I note our new centrefold US ambassador remarks on how independent New Zealand is!
Why, we tick off China, and NKorea! We don’t get told what to do , you have to ask us! And then of course we’ll do whatever you want
I’m neither for Russia or against it, like any other country, they’re in a state of evolution.I do have a sneaking regard for the way they chucked out Monsanto and GMO it has to be said, but the homophobia is nuts, and the oligarchy mirrors the US.Its hard to get an accurate picture because of the hardout propaganda, which is so unfair at times I find myself championing the Russians

    1. Francesca: “I note our new centrefold US ambassador remarks on how independent New Zealand is!”

Yeah, I noticed that too. That explains the presence of our troops in the middle east, and our capitulation over the TPPA. A member of this household remarked “I’d congratulate him on identifying correct note of flattery, if I weren’t sure that a staffer told him to say that” Heheh.

“…the homophobia is nuts, and the oligarchy mirrors the US”

What many people don’t understand about Russia is that Orthodoxy is fundamental to its identity. It survived through all the years of Communism, and has made a resurgence since the fall of the Soviet Union. Russian society therefore has a conservative attitude towards homosexuality – as does much of the Christian world. I’m not sure how much of the homophobia reported is actual or just propaganda; I’m inclined to think the latter. As to oligarchs: yes, Russia has Yeltsin and the western neoliberal advisors during the 90s to thank for much of that. We of course have our own homegrown variety, though they’re not quite so obscenely wealthy.

      1. I do agree. As I said Russia is evolving, they’re a thousand times better off than under Yeltsin, and Putin has been cracking down on the corruption. The west doesn’t make it any easier when they accept with open arms some crook like Khordokovsky who cries “I’ve been framed”!
when he’s been tried for corruption

      2. “I’m not sure how much of the homophobia reported is actual or just propaganda”

It’s real;, D’esterre. It’s real for anyone who bothers to look.

Your apologism for the corrupt Russian Orthodox Church is misguided. There is damned good reason why the Soviets all but banned them.

        1. Sally’s Husband: “It’s real for anyone who bothers to look.”

There has been so much anti-Russian propaganda broadcast over at least the period of the Obama administration, it’s difficult to figure out what is fact and what isn’t. If you have evidence in the form of links, please post them, if you would be so good.

“Your apologism for the corrupt Russian Orthodox Church is misguided. There is damned good reason why the Soviets all but banned them.”

Crikey! That’s a bit of a leap for you to make, characterising me as an apologist. Again, evidence of corruption, if you please. Were you making the same assertion about the Catholic church, I’d similarly require evidence.

The Soviets didn’t succeed in banning the Russian Orthodox church, because of public protests. The church shrank in size, but after Stalin died, there wasn’t as much persecution. Nowadays, the church is flourishing, both in Russia and elsewhere in the world, with numbers of churchgoers increasing.

In Russia, promotion of the gay lifestyle is banned. Homosexuality is not: good luck with attempts to do that, in any case.

Russia is a secular society underpinned by religious precepts. It’s very conservative in many respects.

  2. Just as an initial response,I find it strange that Time Magazine has a building that is St.Basils Russian Orthodox church morphing into the White House.Does this mean that the destardly Russians are conducting a Religious coup d’etat against the Western American Christian church ?!

  3. WE all have Putin to thank for the fact that we are not already in a nuclear WWIII. His refusal to be provoked into a war with NATO and the USA despite their instigating the coup that overthrew the democratically elected government in Ukraine , the sanctions unfairly placed on Russia when the people of Crimea voted to rejoin Russia, the shooting down of a Russian jet by Turkey, the unnecessary military escalation on the borders with Russia, the invasion and destruction of Libya and the attempted destruction of Syria.
Putin and Lavrov are the premier statesmen in the world today as they seek peace while the USA and Europe elites seek war.
If you get your news from TV1 TV3 and National Radio you of course will think the Russians are the source of all evil in the world. (I note many of the news leaders were given a free trip to the USA, to be indoctrinated, a couple of years ago. Russia also invited any news organisations to visit but none accepted)
Fortunately China and Russia are sick of all this bullshit and have presented a pathway to prosperity through the One Belt One Road project. They have even welcomed the USA to participate if it wishes. Trump obviously sees where the positive future lies but Washington elite, personified by Clinton and Obama and backed by the “security” organisations, can only see a future based on military adventurism, US hegemony and arms manufacture. God help us if Trump is impeached and we get that deadhead Pence for president.

Couldn’t agree more! I’ve long given upon any TV news programmes. As for RNZ, heaven help us all: once upon a time, it was where one could go for a countervailing view, and news that wasn’t available elsewhere. No longer; one might as well listen to commercial radio, because that’s essentially what it is now, just with fewer commercials.

  4. Damn right. This ‘HACK’ is the biggest ‘psyop’ Wurlitzer hoax since…..god…name it ? ! White Helmets? Khan Sheikhoun ? Rashidin ? Oddessa ? Maidan….Ghouta..MH17….
Seth RICH could probably tell us.
Or if pedogate WEINER/PODESTA’s corrupt emails could just get due diligence.
Now, ringing in the old ghoul and 911cover-up specialist MUELLER is like putting DULLES on the Warren Commission-gee whizz. no skin in that game. [Forged Under Fire—Bob Mueller and Jim Comey’s Unusual Friendship https://www.washingtonian.com/2013/05/30/forged-under-firebob-mueller-and-jim-comeys-unusual-friendship/ ]
I see RadNZ has bought it hook line and hack.
Now USAMO’ve HIT SAA again at al-Tanf (al-Tanaf) border station. Inside Syrian national territory ! Like its their natural born right to be there.

  5. I find this chronological list of events quite staggering – the CIA has always been known for their illegal activities in other countries jurisdictions but to see it in all its awfulness is something to behold.

Also Martyn wasn’t the David Lange Government involved in some CIA meddling at some stage – I cannot remember what it was – was it the French nuclear testing. Keep up your good work.

  6. Since Wikileaks posted a reward for information on the murder of Seth Rich (something they have never done before or since) in July last year, there has been speculation that Rich was the DNC whistleblower/leaker. Over the last few days, the story has resurfaced (not in our controlled media of course), with claims made by a former homicide detective that Rich’s (missing) laptop showed he had been communicating with Wikileaks. The story is complicated and I hope people will look it up for themselves. I do not understand how it is, that the NSA has vacuumed up everyone’s emails, but can’t access the DNC’s emails to show who hacked or more likely leaked them to Wikileaks. So far there has not been a shred of evidence produced to show it could have been Russia.

  7. While we are looking at the sorry record of the U.S. Empire, I would like to introduce the First example of False news that I encountered.

It was the Cuba Missile Crisis in 1962. I was 16,preparing for school C exams .In the news came the reports from U.S. intelligence that the Soviet Union were building silos in Cuba, and that Soviet ships were steaming towards Cuba with Nuclear missiles. It was declared that Soviet missiles 90 miles from the U.S. mainland was an existential threat to the United States. If the Soviet Union did not reverse course the U.S.threatened a nuclear strike .I remembered a heightened awareness of what was happening.I asked myself what was the point of studying when I thought there was a strong possibility that soon I and everyone else was going to be dead.
Fortunately we had an intelligent U.S.President Jack Kennedy ,who ignored the advice of his belligerent generals of the day, and reached an accomodation with Khrushchev the leader of the Soviet Union. The leader of the free World had stared down the Communist aggressor , and the Russians turned around their ships, destroyed the silos, and returned to Russia.Or so we were told, in all the newspapers, radio, and newsreels. It was not until four or Five years later that I read an account of the incident written by a revisionist historian, who shared the information that the U.S had erected nuclear missiles in Turkey.
The real deal done was that the U.S removed their missiles in Turkey, and in return the S.U. removed their missiles from Cuba. So,this was possibly the first false news of the post World war era?
What is especially significant is that that the U.S.has now put nuclear missiles ringing Russia and China. If it was an existential threat to the U.S in 1962, why is it not the same threat to Russia and China today?

A first response nuclear strike anyone?

    1. Yep Pete, I was 10 and utterly terrified. It was the first intimation I had there could be such a thing as the end of the world.
Lucky for us Kennedy stood up to the hawks, but that came with a price.
Shortly before Kennedy’s assassination there was a flyer distributed around Dallas accusing JFK of lying to the American people,
      betraying the constitution
befriending our enemies(Russia)amongst other ridiculous accusations
It was headed” this man is wanted for treasonous activities”
I can’t understand the blase manner in which people view nuclear weapons these days

    2. Historian Pete: “It was the Cuba Missile Crisis in 1962. I was 16,preparing for school C exams.”

I was just a little bit younger: 4th form. I, too, remember that account. It wasn’t until I read Chomsky many years later that I found out about the missiles in Turkey.

And it was Chomsky who told readers that in fact it was Cuba which had asked for the missiles to be stationed there; the Soviet Union obliged. Of course, it was completely understandable that Castro was looking for some weapon muscle to counter the US; this was just after the Bay of Pigs incident, after all, and the CIA had embarked on a campaign to assassinate him. About which he was only too well-aware.

  8. Stunningly brilliant summary Matryn, of the corruption of the US intelligence “deep state” collusion the US blame o others sadly even now today.

Trump was only a vehicle used for their continuing “espionage” efforts to “undermine” other countries.

  9. ‘I’m no fan of Russia or Putin in any way shape or form’

You will get it eventually, Martyn.

In the meantime those of us that know the truth look to Russia, and particularly to Putin, to save us from the wild excesses of the maniacs that have been control of the Anglo-American world for decades.
