  1. “Luxon is essentially David Brent with a lot less hair”

Please, we have to be able to craft that into a nickname and get it to stick.

  2. Obviously Winston was not able to teach Jacinda how to be more than a one term wonder . At least he has staying power which is the only compliment I can make about him.

  3. Winston Petersburg has lasted a very long time in politics by being better at politics than almost all of the New Zealand political establishment. And he’s done it for decades.

When he’s gone, who is there to replace him in his valuable, valuable, almost indispensable role?

    1. It’s a pity if he was/is so brilliant it was at politics not at something useful and meaningful.
Politics is only a game, a sideshow, not what people need.

  4. It’s really hard on the current crop of ‘journalists’ when the great stupefier fails to churn out ‘news’. They cannot be expected to find their own after all. The horse race ran, now it’s with the stewards.

It is a curiosity however, in a field ostensibly winnowed by the advent of social media, that natural selection has permitted such wretchedly stunted specimens to survive. The social Darwinism favoured by neoliberals should have produced Ubermen – but, like the benefits to NZ of Roger Douglas’s incontinent greed, these are nowhere in evidence.

  5. Give him a break. He was probably concentrating on his Crew murder book – or at least the aftermath of its release. (It’s not too bad)
Everyone needs to write a book. Especially the gorgeous ones. I’m waiting for Matty McClean’s “MY Struggle”. I’m betting it’ll outdo Winston’s “MY Life” and David’s “Look at ME” (with an expose on Life on the Spectrum)
