  1. Lessons are seldom learned for long – look at China’s internal inability to tell the truth out of fear, or the WHO failing to declare an obvious pandemic apparently for fear of upsetting same and losing lucrative funding.
What fascinates me with history is mans essential nature is unchanged across thousands of years.
After one of the South Island earthquakes It was glaringly evident how damaged the unreinforced brick buildings were, around the same time someone linked online a copy of a newspaper from 1855 after the Wairarapa quake showing government banning unreinforced brick as a building material.
Somewhere along the way we quietly forget what we already knew.

    1. “Somewhere along the way we quietly forget what we already knew………”

Like in the 1990’s when National deregulated the building industry. As one example, what idiots in their right mind could think plastered in untreated pine was not going to rot.

      1. @ Kat”what idiots in their right mind could think plastered in untreated pine was not going to rot.”

A profit driven mentality without good sense in the building industry, allowed by an ignorant and rubber stamping government agency with poor management culture at BRANZ.

        1. It was allowing industry to self regulate…. in this case allowing the timber industry to decide untreated timber was acceptable for framing. Carter-Holt and all made lots of money, the B.R.I was replaced to remove government culpability, private building certifiers etc liquidated to avoid culpability and it ended up with local councils (funded by ratepayers) and home owners carrying the can.
And Roger Douglas (the author of it all) got a knighthood.

  2. Yeah its an interesting one , the Spanish Influenza,… I remember a few years ago really getting into the research ,… but what WAS really interesting about it was the fact that it took the lives primarily of those in their late teens up to about the age of 35… prime demographics for fighting a war and forming the most productive part of a persons working life…and upholding an economy.

As opposed to the usual common or garden variety flu that takes the immuno – compromised, the elderly and the very young in droves globally.

And for the longest time they wondered exactly what microorganism caused it. Until they found tissue samples that had been preserved since that time and then proceeded to isolate the microorganism. Using similar techniques to actual victims of the Black Death, until they found the ancient DNA ( in teeth and bone samples ) and established it as a bacterium. If I recall rightly , viruses have Rna instead … pieces of ‘DNA’ …as a general rule.

Good article by Mr Trotter in demonstrating PRECISELY how these unscrupulous propagandists manipulate public opinion to the point of treating us all like lemmings and ordering us all to leap off a cliff to our deaths in droves at their whim to serve their agendas…

Gotta love Mustard gas, Chlorine, land mines , rapid fire large caliber machine guns , barbed wire and high explosives, don’t you. Sheer brilliance in motion, those scientists… you’ll never look down on a geek or a nerd again, rest assured. Not for them the bespectacled, white coated and benevolent exterior of the quietly spoken scientists toiling diligently in their labs…

We call the bosses of these nerds politicians, military and industrial leaders … but colloquially… they are more commonly known as, … and correctly called, BASTARDS. Usually prefaced by ‘Right’ .

I guess I could go all David Ike and allude to ‘ reptilians’ running the joint but I think Ike is far more experienced in these matters and has had far more time to develop his theory’s than this post can ever possibly permit…

    However, this calls for song.

Now admittedly,… this song was penned in 1932… WAY after all those nameless , faceless ones had been laid in their graves in their millions in 1918 and the elites danced merrily on board a vessel on the Riviera… Think of it next time you are tempted to tuck your children in with a teddy bear…

  3. More than 100 years have passed after Influenza pandemic. Hopefully we will not see the same situation this time thanks to advancement in medical science.
