The Government’s fuel relief package is facing criticism for excluding many of New Zealand’s most vulnerable groups, including beneficiaries, disabled people, and carers, during a worsening cost of living crisis.

The two messages Willis and Luxon wanted to drive home yesterday was that beneficiaries won’t get anything and this has to be targeted because Labour were feckless with Covid.
National are actively pushing people out of the lifeboat, that is what we are witnessing with their $50 a week targeted plan.
Pensioners, beneficiaries, the disabled, the working poor, the squeezed middle, you can all go fuck yourself is the message from National.

The carers and support staff get nothing.

This is right wing mythology as social policy, ‘the deserving poor’.

Comparing crisis responses: Labour vs National
NZ Fell over under Labour with Covid and Jacinda and Grant stopped, helped us to our feet, gave us a cuddle and said the cost was going on the credit card.
New Zealand falls over under National with a fuel crisis, and Luxon and Nicola kick us for being weak, tell us to stop crying and says the free market will solve it.
The glee with which Luxon and Willis excluded beneficiaries, disabled, carers and support staff from fuel relief shouldn’t be forgotten or rewarded.
When policy choices deliberately leave the most vulnerable behind, it’s not just an economic decision — it’s a moral one that voters will ultimately judge.
But beneficiaries are responsible for getting their kids to school, getting themselves or their kids to the doctor, showing up for WINZ appointments or job interviews.
And many beneficiaries work in the volunteer sector, providing assistance to others.
