Setting the record straight: Why food prices are more expensive in NZ than in Australia
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11883061
It’s only true if you believe that the food produced here (and by way of the taxpayer and citizen’s subsidies – in terms of use of NZ’s natural resources) should be part of a global market place.
Why beef and lamb (contributing to the pollution of land and water), or BoP Avocadoes, or potatoes or a vast variety of fruit and vegetables) that are produced here should be cheaper in Australia (AND elswhere) is down to ideology.
Let’s not get into the reasons why NZ fish is cheaper way up and down the eastern seaboard of Australia than it is here, and has been for several years. Oh, I know – the market the market – that same market that is going to cure our housing shortage /sarc
Unbelievably stupid. In NZ, it takes a while, but the natives eventually get restless. Maybe it’ll take a few of those Kiwi economic migrants living in Australia to chant a little louder.
