Whenever there is a policy or law that they don’t like, the champions of neoliberalism call it “political”.
Playing on the unpopularity of politicians, neoliberals use the word “political” as an insult.
We often hear the neoliberals say, “We must not make this issue political”.
Neoliberals often accuse their opponents of being “political” or of, “polticising an issue”. “You are just being political” they thunder.
When the neoliberals use the word “political” in this way, what they really mean is that we should not be democratic. When neoliberals say, we should not be “political”, or demand that we must get “politics out of government” or local government, what they really mean, is that we should get democracy out of government and local government. That we should not be democratic, that we should not have democracy. Especially if democracy, or as they call it “politics”, gets in the way of the big business. Democracy is the only counter and a check to the undemocratic power of money, and big business, that the rest of us without money will ever have.
The neoliberals anti-politics mantra, is a cover for an attack on democracy.
