I would rather that Indian and Chinese and … were properly vetted before they come in and given the conditions that would enable them to find their feet, give and receive advantage here. Not this punitive approach that we have adopted, actually in most other areas; give the minimum instructions and conditions and if people don’t come up to some arbitrary level that may be out of their reach, fine/punish them. And concentrate on making some sort of profit out of overseas visas – I think that is the main goal for NZ officials and gummint actually.
Just visited my local pizza place, owned and run locally long-term by owner and staff. He told me that his second restaurant with Italian food, rather than mostly pizzas (which he cooks in his pizza oven) and wine or coffee, he has closed – one reason was because he couldn’t get the chefs he needed. Possibly needing one from overseas. He agrees with me that Immigration are only interested in making money, not serving the country’s and business requirements. How come that we have allowed our country to be gobbled up by predatory financiers who want to siphon off our lifeblood to undeserving venues?
