Three days ago US Special Counsel, Jack Smith’s, superseding indictment of Donald Trump for crimes against the US people and attempted perversion of the 2020 presidential election, was unsealed by the courts.
It is possibly one of the most damning documents of a political figure in US history. Yet, we have seen next to ZERO coverage in NZ news media, none on RNZ. Similar treatment of the development applies in the USA. The NYT, WP, WSJ have all relegated the story to a couple of paragraphs at most, buried well behind other stories.
I can’t help but wonder if the US News Media (and by extension our own domestic one, as it simply regurgitates what they supply us) are not well and truly in Trump’s corner, they have normalised his insanity as illustrated by their earlier wall to wall coverage of stumbles by J Biden yet studiously ignoring Trump’s obvious and growing dementia. The descriptive term being the sane-washing” of a lunatic.
Global news services have long been feeds for capitalist, market and US foreign policy propaganda but trends toward normalising dictatorial strongmen intent on dismantling western democracy from within is very concerning.
Shame on RNZ, in particular, for ignoring the release of the indictment.
