So we are so clever. We are still doing the troubled human type things as in 46BC
From Robert Harris’ book Dictator – about Cicero in Roman Empire.
To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child.
For what is the worth of human life, unless it is woven into the life of
our ancestors by the records of history:

    Cicero, Orator, 46 BC.

At the end of the book – there is this which I agree with, looking at devices and images and gossip mainly,
is cheating ourselves of practice in using our brains thoroughly.
‘All that will remain of us is what is written down.’

I’ve been glancing at this mushroom death case thinking it was in NZAO. But it is in Oz. I don’t give a .uck about it. Why can’t other country’s minor crimes bstay at home. We have our own tragedies – the outbreak of WW3 economically gets bypassed!

What about Wellington getting flooded again? Do you think this is part of our wee country splitting up into semi villages as the official central and local gummints can’t cope. Turn it over to trained and elected local people and pay half the rates we now pay. And the taxes would be adjusted down for the lower and sllghtly up for the higher so they’d have to save up for their helipad!

      1. That;’s good Chairman. I see you always bringing something meaningful forward so thanks for that too.

  4. Wellington ratepayers are going to give away their water infrastructure to a new stand-alone entity so it can leverage those assets to increase borrowing up to 500% of their operating revenue – compared to the 285% limit for existing councils.

Of course, operating revenue is expected to cover operating costs, including debt servicing.

Yet, despite the touted savings from cost-spreading, efficiencies and scale, we’re told water bills will continue to increase – due to “historical underinvestment”

After July next year, water will be charged separately – via water-meters

Water alone is expected to cost an average over $7000 annually by mid-2033.

That’s around $20 a day – or just under $140 a week for your water needs alone.

Yet, like 3 Waters, they say this will be less than what households would face under the current model.

Yes, the current model that investigations revealed was overcharging Wellington ratepayers nearly three times more than comparable councils.

With households already feeling the squeeze, there won’t be many that can afford to spare $140 a week to pay for water.

Evidently, the cost-spreading savings don’t go far enough.

Therefore, they really need to look at widely extending the term of the loan to lower those crippling household water bills.

And also look at exemptions for lower income households

Once water-meters are introduced, water consumption drops. Thus. pricing needs to further increase to make up for the demand shortfall and maintain revenue expectations

And as pricing increases, demand further falls. So pricing needs to further increase again. And round and round it goes.

Eventually demand will stabilise, As water is a necessity. there is only so much one can cut back the use of.

If they fail to better address pricing, this high cost of water is going to become very problematic.

From increased hospital admissions due to poor hygiene and sanitation issues increasing the risk of disease and illness widely spreading. To higher interest rates required to offset the related inflation of higher water costs.

There will be less consumer demand as more household income goes to paying more for water.

As consumer demand falls and business costs increase, wage pressure will also increase as employees will seek to recover/offset that $140 a week water bill.

Putting more pressure on businesses. leading to more collapsing, thus higher unemployment. Feeding into the downward spiral.

    1. Is there an algebraic equation for this sort of thing?
1.5- minus> + .5- minus = 2- 0 minus?? The people who were lucky and influenced appropriately to acquire the skills and mindset that has wafted them into managing Wellington Water would I am sure make a better equation. (Your experts show irrelevant outcomes with your equations! Well I have better experts!)
