I’m back in the room after many several weeks in San Fran and the Bay Area (cycle lanes, articulated trolley buses, resurrection of mothballed rail, the potential for re-use, the plight of gig workers and the exceptionalism of the upper middle class lycra clads).

I think this feeling and wondering is spreading like an oil slick on water. Eventually that can enclose seabirds and they eventually die. I’m not quite sure how nemesis will come to the beltway peeps – perhaps the office greenery will change into stinging, moving triffid-like mutations and the staff will end up stiff or have to sit defensively with their chairs backing onto a wall.

We are a bi-lingual society English and Maori and not everyone speaks Maori. What is the practical idea of saying that people should only speak English as hospital employees? It is very practical – and not at all practical to make a fuss.
