  1. The Salvation Army’s State of the Nation report released today provides sobering reading, but no surprise to people living out in the real world.

    Violence against children right here in New Zealand has risen, with the number of children hospitalised from assault and neglect, the highest since 2014.

    Food security and affordable homes have worsened over the past year, and 32% of New Zealanders have been victims of crime. This figure is almost certainly higher, as many crimes go unreported. Even then 32% is an appalling figure, well over a quarter of the population.

    Trying to remember what this government promised to do for for the populace, is a challenge. The child abuse figures alone show that in one tragic area where we have long been bad, we are now worse. Unacceptable.
