Gutless environmental controls – this was bound to happen. The area needed to be purchased by Crown and made a controlled wetland or whatever. Private interests will always triumph over common good as in the failing of the UK enclosures system to keep common land.

The owners were determined to do what they wanted with this wetland; as owners they were suppose to take on government’s duties. It should have been purchased by the Crown and returned to Maori who could then take responsibility for it. The outcome of not taking it out of business and private interests was predictable.
This is similar to the single-minded rapacious approach in the Amazon where in one tribal area, the last man standing, after two murdering incursions decimating the people over decades, is now dead. After lying down and placing macaw feathers over him, to carry out his own ritual; as one who has had everything stripped from him by the clawing of human greed and individualism.

Now make it work for all and make a profit too, I am sure you can do it providing gummint doesn’t charge huge ground rent for the tracks etc and for buildings storing equipment, future loads waiting for transport. If ground rent is demanded then the roads and the trucking firms must pay half, equality!! And charges must be kept reasonable ensuring effective use of the system.
