  1. In an old book The Boys from Brazil published 1976 written by Ira Levin born 1929 so a teenager through WW2.
At the end he has Rabbi Liebermann say about what happened to the Jews – ‘Nazis made it happen. People who would even kill children to get what they wanted.’ …’I say in my talks it takes two things to make it happen again, a new Hitler and social conditions like in the thirties. But that’s not true.
It takes three things: the Hitler, the conditions….and the people to follow the Hitler.’

It seems that the combination of vile circumstances mixes and solidifies into ‘evil’.

Ira seems to have been outstanding and perceptive as a writer with a wry humour. This book might have some insights to guide us. In 1970, Levin wrote the science-fiction novel This Perfect Day about a technocratic dystopia, for which he won a Prometheus Award in 1992.
