  1. Conspiracy theorists are noted for unsuccessfully push their evidence free claims for years. Nothing shifts their convictions because the convictions are reached before evaluating the evidence.Just piling more suspicion upon suspicion and trying to draw tenuous historical parallels is not causal evidence.
The laboratory leak origin is not a theory, it’s a suspicion, a possibility that remains bereft of concrete evidence.

But why bother writing this article? You declared it conclusive victory for the hypothesis a couple of years back.

  2. One thing is certain however. That is, even with all the painful lessons of COVID 19, we are still absolutely unprepared for the next pandemic.

We will be screwed all over again. Especially the poor and vulnerable.

    Stupid humans.

  3. “The Covid ‘lab leak’ theory isn’t just a rightwing conspiracy.”

What, is it a left wing conspiracy too?

    Let’s stop saying conspiracy.

COVID LEAKED FROM THE WUHAN LAB.

If you want to do some conspiracy analysis then ask, how did covid get to the Wuhan lab?

According to Jeffrey Sachs who led the US enquirey into the origins of covid, it 99% came from a US bioweapons research lab at the University of North Carolina where it was created with US miltary ‘defence’ money.

Then ask, why would that bioweapon be sent to a Leaky Lab in China and who would be most affected if the virus leaked from a leaky lab in China?

Then ask, if you wanted to use a bioweapon against an economically threatening adversary and have plausible deniability how could that be done?

    1. Its relatively simple, Joseph. We are talking about research here, yeah we can argue over how dangerous, or not, this research may have been, but ultimately,, its just research. Now, back in Obama’s day, he put a temporary halt to this type of research, mainly because the main lab doing this work, Fort Detrick, leaked like a sieve. Thus, this type of research was offshored during this period, Wuhan being the most well known lab to receive this research. So, the US basically continued their research, but now out of the Wuhan lab. The French also worked on whatever they were doing out of this same lab. So, cooperation between labs, all over the world is relatively common and what I am outlining here is relatively easy to still find also. In short, there’s no big mystery here, the origins of Covid and whether it was a lab leak, and whether it leaked from the Wuhan lab, or not, aside…nobody knows and I am not sure if it matters anyway.

Another aside, Wuhan is an amazing city – architecturally speaking, 10m+ population, hi-tech, super modern joint.

  4. “We were ‘lucky’ that Covid had a low mortality rate, the next pandemic could easily be far worse than Covid and if it is, our system will quickly become over run and shut down from the shear number of dead.”

    Lucky with Covid? Hardly.

A low *acute* mortality rate.. does not account for the damage the illness does, particularly from repeat infections, nor do we know what post acute mortality rates will look like for a virus that’s mechanistically similar in protein function to HIV1.. a virus evolutionarily turbo-charged via ribosomal frameshifting.

Never mind that SARS2 binds to the ACE2 RBD.. a receptor that happens to be prolific in all vital organs and vascular system.. or that SARS2 directly enters privileged systems like the brain and central nervous system infecting every subsystem in it’s wake – a short goodbye to your cancer preventing t-cells and brief hello to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, *AIDS*. Glymphatic system not taking the trash out.. who cares? It’s not like you’re going to remember much of anything once Lewy Body Dementia sets in. Living with ALS? Not for long.

  5. The lab leak was suspected at the beginning of the epidemic, then quickly turned into a conspiracy theory, then eventually morphed into the received knowledge now that it’s almost certainly a lab leak. A lab leak suits no one because if it was proven 100% not only would China and the US (as joint partners in these gain of function experiments) be culpable all ‘risky’ lab experiments would have to be under the hammer to stop. They would have to re write a lot of the rules for gain-of-function experiments, which are continuing apace as well as god knows what they do in these labs. The science community probably don’t want that scrutiny or to put the breaks on what lay people would consider very risky experiments. Another reason it’s almost certainly a lab leak is because if it was a natural species jump they would have identified the source by now.

    1. The lab leak theory relies on one main detail: ignoring the biology of the virus. Most experts in that area have said repeatedly that there are clear signs the of zoonotic origin which could not be faked.

The evidence for a lab leak hasn’t changed since 2021, and there is a paucity of actual evidence for it – mostly just vague probabilistic evidence, none of which accounts for what virologists who work in this specific area say.

So, who are you going to believe if there’s no more evidence? The people who can show specific biological evidence for zoonotic origin likelihood, or people who’re often highly motivated to make a legal-type case for something by lumping lots of low quality evidence together in a group? Remove the “it’s gotta be man made” tinted glasses and you’ll see what real experts on viruses have said all along. Their views haven’t changed because the best evidence has not changed.

  6. I don’t see why it matters, tbh. If it was a lab leak, that doesn’t alter the fact that wild animals represent a reservoir from which viruses can readily transfer to people, or mutate to infect people instead. If it was a transmission from wild animals, that doesn’t alter the fact that efforts to prevent lab leaks are important. Whipping up Sinophobia did not save the life of anyone with a lethal case of COVID.
