The attack on Green Party MP Benjamin Doyle by Winston Peters is an alarming escalation in transphobic culture war moral panic

You know, I make these stands because I believe in values and principles and I despise a lynch mob.

Due process, evidence, rational objectivity. The desire to see good in all and merge mercy with judgment to get justice. The need to make material well being a common good.

I have been almost the only person on the Left who has criticised the Woke Middle Class Identitarians, hell, I brought the word ‘woke’ into the NZ political vernacular after watching them run riot on the Left and cause enormous structural damage with their pure Temple Politics.

I have been highly critical of their special super power of alienating male voters from the Left and driving them into the arms of the reactionary right.

So

While I stand by that criticism, I am utterly against the vile attempt to demonise the Trans community, erase them as Trump is attempting and use them as a punching bag by the moral majority.

Trans people/non binary are human beings for fucks sakes and the manner in which the Political Right have made an already radioactive debate even more toxic is beneath our mana and dignity.

So here comes this new stinking hell, allegations made by Right Wing Trolls who have taken photos of Green MP Benjamin Doyle with his son on his Instagram account and have managed to take captions written out of context and leaned into the insinuation that it is all sinister.

FFS People.

Pause, and just consider what the hell you are all saying and doing here.

You mean to tell me that all it takes to identify a crime is a couple of emojis and some out of context photos from an open instagram?

Wow, what a team of detectives we have here.

Benjamin Doyle is a proud member of their community and is open about their identity. Queerness may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but to use that identity as a disqualifier is a dangerous journey to embark upon.

This is ugly.

I mean I thought Slater was pretty cruel and the political knee cappings meted out in Dirty Politics were obscene, but what we have here is something woefully more hateful and far more insidiously sadistic.

To make the insinuations that have been made without any thing even bordering on evidence is just shocking.

I wrote recently about the Peter Ellis case in Christchurch following the claims of satanic cults in America, that same whiff of lynch mob justice is in the air now.

The insinuations made without any real evidence are atrocious and a level of dirty politics that is disgraceful.

I am turning my head away because I am sickened by what we are becoming.

Maybe ACT supporters making deeply defamatory claims about Green MPs should have been looking inside their own Party for abusers?

The hypocrisy is astounding.
