  1. The greatest achievement of neoliberalism, in New Zealand, is the success with which modern versions of slavery have been created and maintained. Most of us are wage slaves, existing merely as a conduit, using our labour to create profit for those who control capital. Benefit slaves are given just enough to survive, again creating profit for the landowners and being controlled by the massive amounts of alcohol, weed and P cheaply available. Finally, Migrant slaves. Check out one of Stuff’s main stories this morning. The problems in this area are caused by deliberate government policy.
    You know that all is lost when you live in a country where the prime minister ensures legislation is passed so that no capital gains tax is paid on the sale of property and he then sells a property and pockets hundreds of thousands of dollars profit and pays no tax.

Right on Peter – a slave wage economy indeed, where, like those who worked the cotton fields, workers are fed and housed just enough to be ready for work again the next day, and beaten if they step out of line. And this all managed by a new breed of neo-liberal zealots relishing the power to destroy every last remnant of social initiative left by their predecessors.
