Is Patrick Gower a sociopath? Look for yourself
Never before has the voice of rich white male privilege sounded so delusional. If the tv3 gig ever ends, Gower has a job for life as Trump’s Press Secretary.

du Plessis-Alan manages to go beyond hating on uppity Maoris, she also washes away an entire nations bigotry against beneficiaries by blaming Metiria for not being contrite enough…
I don’t know Tim Beveridge from a bar of soap, he’s a ZB host and I never listen to ZB.
But I do read the columns he writes for the NZ Herald which are filled with the sort of pompous self inflated sense of privilege that anyone hosting a show on ZB seems to be infested with.
His latest column however is so cringe worthy in its ‘why can’t white men get a break’ narrative it just would be wrong to not deeply mock it…
Watching Steven Joyce doing the weekend current affairs circuit describing Labour’s water tax on farmers as economic self mutilation and denying criticisms that National have stolen and subsidised water for their Dairy Farmer mates is evidence of a Government too self interested to think outside their special interests.
Greens have strategists alright. Crap ones. Ones that develop a hashtag campaign which completely individualised Metiria at the same time as they were trying to say this was not about her. If it’s not about Metiria then where were the “I stand with beneficiaries” green/pink profile pics?
How are Bill English and Steven Joyce supposed to defeat a young woman who can set the cold, cold heart of Paddy Gower aflame? How do a couple of guys on the wrong side of 50 fight a social-media phenomenon? Sure, they can say that elections are about policies – not personalities – but, after ten years of relying on John Key’s winning personality, who’s going to believe them?
Metiria’s crime was not that she had told the truth about needing to game the draconian neoliberal welfare system, but that she had the audacity to tell her story with her chin up in defiance at the injustice of that system rather than the self-shaming we all demand from anything that is attached to the virgin sacrificing sacredness of ‘taxpayer money’.
In NZ we accept the dignity of the broken, but never the dignity of the resistant.
The hypocrisy, vindictiveness and viciousness of the far right was stunning if not surprising. They think they own the poor, that those on a benefit must account to them, and they cannot tolerate the poor retaining any dignity. And that is why they pounced so hard on Metiria.
I’m utterly dismayed that Metiria Turei has been forced out of the co-leadership of the Greens by a vile media pack determined to seize the opportunity of Metiria’s personal struggle to drive down the Greens.
IT WAS SHORTLY AFTER MARAMA DAVIDSON’S impassioned appeal to Metiria Turei’s devastated supporters, that the “Avenge Metiria” meme made its first appearance. No one’s entirely sure who started it, but pretty soon it was all over social media. Then the ideas for action started pouring in to the Green Party HQ. Though expressed in a multitude of ways, the message was clear: “If Metiria is to be avenged, then we have to get her supporters to the polls!”
