I’ve watched Breakfast ion TVNZ in the past, and it’s as enjoyable as slamming my hand in a car door. It’s less Morning Report and more the Edge radio show, a plastic banal wasteland that only the terribly bored would ever watch.
He lives a life of wealth that disconnects him to 99% of his TVNZ audience. He has the empathy of Bob Jones and the charm of a cavity search. The amount of times he has just mouth farted out some nonsense garbage about social issues should be the reason he goes. We look to our Public Broadcaster to challenge hegemonic structure, not embrace it and be its bloody representative 7pm weeknights.
What ‘stop the hate’ is really about is the privilege that has been eroded in gatekeepers like the NZ Herald, suddenly their pundits and mouth pieces of the powerful have to face the derision and anger of the people their policies and news narratives impact

NZ desperately needs to find a new way to fund media that can be a real counter weight to corporate media and a neutered fourth estate. I don’t think Scoop will be around long enough to be part of that solution.

Unfortunately TV3 could appoint the second coming of Jesus Christ co-hosting with Lorde and it wouldn’t help them.
