Trump rejects claim he’s ‘chickening out’ on tariffs just because he keeps changing rates
US President Donald Trump wants the world to know he’s no “chicken” just because he’s repeatedly backed off high tariff threats.
The US Republican president’s tendency to levy extremely high import taxes and then retreat has created what’s known as the “TACO” trade, an acronym coined by The Financial Times’ Robert Armstrong that stands for “Trump Always Chickens Out.” Markets generally sell off when Trump makes his tariff threats and then recover after he backs down.
Trump was visibly offended when asked about the phrase Wednesday and rejected the idea that he’s “chickening out,” saying that the reporter’s inquiry was “nasty.”
“You call that chickening out?” Trump said. “It’s called negotiation,” adding that he sets a “ridiculous high number and I go down a little bit, you know, a little bit” until the figure is more reasonable.
Every single stupid stunt Trump p has pulled sees him chicken out and back down as the damage of his alpha jock bullshit routine burns America’s interests.
Bullying allies and making threats is not how you win friends.
TACO is a perfect acronym for his tactics and makes a mockery of his Art of the Deal shtick.

That’s fine when you are the host of a reality TV show, it’s terrifying when that person leads a nuclear armed country.
Trump is the ultimate resentment politician. He understands how it feels to be looked down upon by his peers who have laughed at his achievements. His overcompensation resonates with every white working poor American who have perceived their culture and their values belittled for cosmopolitan pretensions while economically robbing them of any resilience.
Trump’s revenge fantasies against every imagined slight ignites those voters own resentments while also becoming a flare to attract white supremacists and Nazi sympathisers.
That’s what politics, thanks to social media hate algorithms, has degenerated into, “I’m hurting, but you are hurting more”.
Trump wants the world to cower before him.
He wants the threat of American aggression to gain him power and submission.
Threatening friends and allies is not what friends or allies do.

We should not cower to Trump.
We should boycott America, shun America, and work with everyone who isn’t America for the next 4 years to see if American Democracy can rebalance itself.

Well TACOs time is almost done. According to the average of the US polls, among the red states, his support has dropped on average between 50 and 65%. So many Congress people and senators in those states have experienced negative feedback and are being booed off local meetings, that his first budget didn’t get passed. Even 47 is nervous because he’s seen the Fox News polls, showing a wipeout at the midterms. In that event, the democrats and a few republicans are preparing impeachment proceedings, now, some 12 months ahead. If his health holds out, and that’s doubtful, he’ll not last the full term.
