SUFW Free speech vs Trans rights censorship ruling: Winners & Losers
The extraordinary ruling by the High Court that has forced the Palmerston North City Council into allowing a Feminist group (Stand Up For Women) to meet and discuss the Births, Deaths, Marriages and Relationships Registration Bill is as brutal as lemon juice on a schism paper cut.
The Palmerston North City Council had banned SUFW from using one of their venues, the Free Speech Union stepped into challenge that and the High Court delivered the kind of legal smack down that would make Harvey Weinstein weep.
It should never had gotten to this but the vitriol, the subjective wounds masquerading as legitimate risk and the malice of the woke mob forced it.
There are of course some Winners & Losers
WINNERS:
Free Speech & Democracy – the ability to use public spaces to debate issues in the marketplace of ideas is the real winner here because this isn’t about point scoring in the endlessly vicious gender critical feminist vs non binary activist/4th wave feminist/Trans ally schism. You don’t need to agree with SUFW to support their right to access public venues to debate their genuine and valid concerns about self identification. Our country was made a tiny bit stronger by this Court ruling that free speech matters and the attempts to cancel free speech require far more than a vague bullshit threat that the woke will be triggered if they know someone somewhere are discussing ideas they don’t like.
National/ACT/NZ First – will the Woke please stop giving the fucking right wing so much ammunition? It’s Palmerston fucking North – who gives a flying fuck what a bloody library in fucking Palmerston North is doing? How the Christ did you woke clowns hand the right wing so much cultural ammunition? Remember when I told you muppets that deplatforming those two crypto fascists in Auckland would only wake the dormant electoral fault line of ACT? Well it did and the more the woke attempt to cancel free speech, the more the right win! The Left should be championing free speech, not trying to kill it off!
LOSERS:
Mainstream media – to date not one single mainstream media outlet has even reported on this extraordinary ruling (Damien Grant is in tomorrow’s Stuff column). Their gutless self censorship highlights how fearful they have collectively become from the woke Twitter lynch mob. They don’t deserve Fourth Estate privileges when they are such cowards.

Woke Cancel Culture – will the Woke pause, read this ruling and reflect they have gone too far? Like fuck they will. There will be an Action Station petition demanding the High Court gets canceled and replaced by an intersectionist panel with the They pronoun who will cancel SUFW, the library, Palmerston North and then immediately disband itself for historic racism.
Massey University – This High Court ruling is a kick in the non gender specific balls of Massey University who in 2019 banned SUFW from holding a feminist conference.
CONCLUSION:
Look how feral the this debate between Gender Critical Feminists and the Fourth Wave Feminist, Non Gender Binary Activist, Trans Ally Woke Stormtroopers has become.
For those pretending that the looming hate speech laws won’t unleash a tsunami of police complaints and give-a-little funded private prosecutions, look at the needlessness of this case and shudder.
The bewildering venom from this schism makes feuding Drug Cartels look tame.
If Labour pass these new hate speech laws it will trigger a tsunami of this kind of petty woke retribution.

I think I’m living in a parallel universe.
To me it is a sad state of affairs when the Labour Government can be so bad in so many areas and National are not in a position to take advantage of it due to lack of respect form the voting public. Surely some time soon Labour will improve their act replace some lack lustre ministers and capitalize on Jacinda’s mana as she is still riding high.
I say this in self interest as I believe we are not far from a tipping point for wholesale unrest. My feeling is that within 9 months there will start to be a decline in house value leaving many high and dry . Seeing no political way out strikes and protest could return .

I would be interested to hear you examples of endlessly vicious gender critical feminists are?
I am gender critical and my concerns are about the gender id bill, the prescribing of puberty blockers and then cross sex hormones to kids 12 years and upwards. Gold standard NICE guidelines say there is little good evidence they work and if they are prescribed they should be done as part of a high standard research programme with a high threshold for informed consent. Double masectomies for young girls 16 years old, hysterectomies aged 18years. There is a lot to be concerned about.
But more than anything its the shut down of debate. As I commented earlier, it wasn’t just Palm North library, three other libraries cancelled SUFW events. On line vitriol towards the group referred to them as a hate group.
It is no accident the media hasn’t reported this. There is a shut down of debate. Proposed hate laws is an attempt to be the final nail in the coffin.
Most women who are concerned are relatively progressive. I personally never had an issue with trans gender, until I heard lebian feminists were being shut down and excluded unless they would go along with the ideological position that Trans women are real women. Some of these women refused to comply with this demand, because they believe biological sex trumps gender identity and is material reality.

Although i support many of the concerns raised in your post, i’m not sure the gender ID bill is going to open the door to them becoming more prevalent or accessible. The bill is proposing that transgender be included as one of the prohibited grounds of discrimination in section 21 of the Human Rights Act 1993.. and that’s about it so far as my understanding of it goes. It also seems to be taking a long time to progress through parliament. Georgina Beyer tabled it in 2004 and it only seems to have gone as far as select Committee..
Charlie, I hope you are right. My concern is the inclusion of the offensive or cause offence bit.
I have no problem with trans gender rights being protected. I think they should be.
But given that there is a demand for compliance to statements such as “trans women are real women” , failure to agree with this or to state that biological sex is a material reality, or to say you have concerns about gender self ID because it would legally give biological males access to women’s spaces, is deemed offensive by trans activists. It was these sorts of positions that had the likes of Max referring to SUFW as a hate group
It was agreed in the High Court with Judge Nation, that Speak Up for Women is not a hate group. I would suggest that people, who describe the women and female children’s rights advocacy group as such, consider their language.

The gender self ID bill is a proposed amendment to the Births Deaths marriage and Relationships Bill.
In 2018 or 19, the govt proposed gender self ID along with some other changes to the BDMR act. The gender ID changes were added after public submissions for the other changes closed.Tracey Martin deferred the changes after advice from Crown Law that a. It was an undemocratic process and b. There would be conflict with other legislation and crown law thought it would put indue burden on the courts to have to rule on these issues.
The min of internal Affairs Jan Tinetti announced earlier this year she was going to push these changes through.
Basically gender self ID will allow any man (or women) to make a statutory declaration that they identify as the opposite sex and intend to live this way. No questions asked. Currently anyone who wants to do this has to have a medical evaluation and go through the family court. The change will mean there is no gate keeping whatsoever. This potentially allows anyone to declare themselves a women and have access to women’s spaces, toilets change room, hostels women’s prisons, shelters, sport, all of which are protected for women under the human rights act.
SUFW has major concerns about this and have organised public meetings 4 of which councils cancelled after complaints from Trans activists

The super woke activists think that they will be able to use this law to bully women into submission like their compadre cultists in Scotland have managed. The Scots like to sicc the Police onto feminists or bystanders making basic observations about biology claiming it’s “hate speech”. But any weapon that you use on your opponents can also be used against you. Who’s to say that precious woke beliefs won’t be labelled “hateful” at some point in the near future. They certainly have a track record of harassing academics and feminists and critics of their destructive cultural project.
The stupid thing is, it will do absolutely nothing about the actual problems NZ faces, nor does it address the failures that led to the Christchurch mosque massacre. That was a gross failure by the State’s own spy agencies to do their fucken job keeping NZ safe from extremist fuckwits. But was there a cleanout at the SIS, GCSB and the other units outs there? Nada.
Breaking news…. Chch university has just cancelled Charlie Chaplin. Apparently he was a womaniser and married a 16 year old and then an 18 year old. No I don’t approve of that, but it wasn’t illegal and he died in 1977. Likely his behaviour was par for the course for men back then. But yes let’s cancel him!
