      1. Yes as you state even I can remember the bullshit spin ” The employment contracts act” will lead to higher wages . I think thats why the NZ Council of trade unions leadership fell into the spin trap and didn’t oppose it and lead a maqjor revolt. This is now why we have low wages now because the collectiveness that was in the workplace prior to 1992 no longer exists and is being exploited by employers using immigrant labour against locals annd therefor holding down wages.

  1. Well, well, now we understand why polis use certain phrases repeatedly, and don’t seem to deviate from it.

    Interesting insight, Frank.

  2. Frank you are a pure Gem, the evidence here you generate is astonishing compared to the MSM who sit lazily at their desk trying to make their day spin out faster by playing tiddlywinks or reading some junk blog sites.
As for getting Key to admit someone else was lying, yes you have the master liar there in Key, so he would be the best to know who else is lying wouldn’t he.

Great cartoon also, and your blog are always engaging to the reader, best stuff please keep sending us stuff.

    Franks quote,

So according to Key, if “a journalist will ask… a direct and specific question, you really know they’re asking a broader question“?

This was quintessential Key silly-speak for “Yes, Todd McClay lied”.

The curious aspect to Key’s “spun” answers is that Guyon Espiner – a seasoned journalist of the calibre of Lisa Owen, Kim Hill, Simon Walker, et al – allowed Key to make his specious drivel unchallenged.

At the very least, Espiner should have challenged Key of his references to “technical matters” with the simple question,

“Prime Minister, is the phrase “technical matters” the on-message phrase you’ve been told to use?”

Key would have responded with a resounding “No, of course not!”.

  3. Yes, spinning, and presenting flawed evidence, that is what the Key led government has developed to a high level skill now. It also shows in welfare reforms and justifications for them. I have taken an strong interest in the supposed claims of “health benefits of work”, which is another mantra that we get drummed into us by such Ministers as Anne Tolley, who continues on from where Paula Bennett left off.

Further info questioning the government’s approach:

Official publication in the NZ Medical Journal also questioning the evidence used by government:
“Is the statement that if a person is off work for 70 days the chance of ever getting back to work is 35% justified?”

    https://www.nzma.org.nz/journal/read-the-journal/all-issues/2010-2019/2015/vol-128-no-1425-20-november-2015/6729

Other interesting report on the validity and usefulness of the biopsychosocial model now used:

We get presented info and evidence that is often very flawed and does not even prove what is claimed.

    1. Here is the proof that the government’s advisors on welfare reform have relied on misinterpreted data, or have themselves even misled the government and the public on the supposed “health benefits of work”.

      https://www.nzma.org.nz/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/45905/Purdie-1874FINAL1425.pdf

While we can criticise our Australian brothers and sisters for many failings on their side, at least some over there, legal experts, have detected the fraud and taken a firm stand:

      http://connorlegal.com.au/2016/06/the-health-benefits-of-work-part-4/

I wished the shit media we have in New Zealand would finally take note of this, and start uncovering the lies we are served by the likes of Paula Bennett, Anne Tolley, Bill English and John Key.

Anne Tolley, Minister for Social Security, still spreading the lies, they are lies, about the health benefits of work:
      http://www.inthehouse.co.nz/video/44568

Following the UK they are still throwing people off benefits, or deny them benefits, have WINZ health and disability advisors question people’s doctors’ certificates, it is criminal what is going on.

  4. In my experience, central government, local government and the mainstream media have become truth-free zones, especially when it come to anything fundamental or of significant.

The Orwellian nature of current arrangements is still not apparent to many people, but as time passes and conditions deteriorate (are made worse by those in power) more will realise anything official is a half-truth or a lie.

  5. What a total pull through Key is. “Fulsome” is not the same as “full” It has a totally different meaning….things like “insincere flattery” spring to mind. Surely the Morning Report team should have just burst out laughing! One of the sure ways to make a bullshitter run for the hills.
