  1. Sorry, Julie Anne. Evidently, you are out of touch.

Speed limit increases will be widely support by those of us that drive. You need to get out and about in a car more.

What people won’t like are the new road user fees and charges that are being touted.

Yet, from what I can gather, you support those.

  2. Absolute nonsense, the Greens freaking out over people driving at reasonable speeds as usual.

  3. I support Julie Anne Genter’s stance. Too often we prioritise freedom to do something over other peoples’ right to live.
What has been ignored in this article and is little mentioned- is vehicles are not engineered to support that speed. Crash testing impact speeds are less than 70kph. Yet we believe we are safe travelling much faster! We often consider bigger is better, yet recent crash testing on some American SUVs have realised some dangerous flaws.
There are so many other benefits besides survivability- climate, less stress, and road infrastructure longevity. Regards the latter, just as speed exponentially caused more harm- so does it damage our roads. A simple example- travelling at 80kph increasing your tyre life two and a half times longer. So to- to the damage to pavements & roads.
Stop whining about such a small change and see what it does to your pocket, and maybe you’ll also save someone’s life …
