  1. Consent and homes actually built are two quite different things.

I note in the press release consent is the key word and vagueness about the number of actual homes being built. Just lots of hopeful crystal ball predictions!

And no mention of material supply problem solutions, just studies, leading to eventual reports one day. Nor skilled worker shortages.

I take this press release with a grain of salt.

    1. Great comment.

Also for many mansions the 6 year old previous mansion is being demolished to add another consent but then actually does not provide a house in it’s place as it may take 3 – 5 years to build the mega mansions of NZ today tying up building resources like labour and materials and creating massive landfill from the previous demolition.

In another 10 years will be deemed out of date and same process will repeat.

      1. they sell land to investors at a price homeless can’t afford.
the homeless should have to rent for ever

And investors can create more wealth as long as housing is unaffordable to homeless or first home buyers

And those homeless afford to pay and buy will also will just be quiet as it favours them.

        Tell you a story,

companies like dp world in Dubai goes to various countries and build port to just stop respective country from creating a port themselves and to create debt for the country ,

This is done through various ways like by delaying the project , making it expensive, built in a way it won’t become successful , dredging or running the port without business.

So that the country or location near to international sea route will never become a potential threat to dpworld , ever in future.

And the officials who are behind such mass projects in the respective countries will keep quiet as they were the one who signed the contract, which became a liability to state

Investors in nz house is no different from that.

  2. Record consents but for who and are the homes record prices also pricing many out of the market and putting many in huge debt.

    1. Good comment. The build prices should be mentioned as well as demolition consents and of course the missing code of compliance rates.

  3. Building consent numbers are meaningless.
When can we have the numbers of houses and dwellings that have actually been built. When can we know who’s actually building them. What’s the price to the ordinary Joe Blow buyer or renter?
    Smoke and mirrors.

    1. All these builders are selling it to the investors it seems

No development is going on in many sold plots

  4. Use google map to look for falcon landing.

100s of sections are titled but neither on market to sell nor there is any development.

Investors seems to be buying it or builders or developing the control of release.

Need to check with every buyer who bought land and is not doing development in such sites when there is a crisis
