…by refusing to actually apologise to Tory Whanau for his disgraceful character assassination of Tory Whanau by falsely claiming Tory was in some orgy!

Chung’s non-apology deepens storm over sexist smear campaign

No apology, no accountability

Wellington mayoral candidate Ray Chung is facing a growing backlash after failing to deliver a promised apology over a degrading email he sent about current mayor Tory Whanau. Chung claimed over the weekend he had scripted an “unequivocal apology” for the 2023 email in which he circulated a second-hand rumour describing Whanau’s supposed “night of debauchery”. Instead, last night he published a video statement alleging the email leak was part of a “concerted campaign” to discredit him. In the video, Chung said he regretted writing the email and sharing it “with people whom I thought trustworthy”.

As reported by Tom Hunt in the Weekend Post (paywalled), Chung had at one point told the paper he didn’t see why he should apologise at all, “due to embarrassment he said Whanau caused him at a conference a couple of years back”. Whanau says she is yet to hear from Chung directly following the email revelation. It’s fair to say that for many, his dithering, tin-eared response has only reinforced the original offence, and the perception that he’s unfit for leadership.

..what the fuck any of this sleaze has to do with the Wellington mayoralty is utterly beyond me.

EVEN if any of this smear was true, (which it isn’t) – it’s none of our fucking business!

Do we really want this kind of crass false sexual allegations on political candidates and politicians?

This is the exact same toxic bullshit we saw thrown at Green Party MP, Benjamin Doyle.

A fabrication of serious allegations of a sexual nature with no fucking proof whatsoever!

Is that what your hate for ‘woke’ does?

You just make up appalling false hatred about a person and spread that?

What do you think that actually says about the toxic human being you have become if this kind of behaviour is acceptable to you, just to ‘own’ the ‘woke’?

I enjoy fighting the Right and beating them with better arguments, I don’t believe trawling sewers for smears and character assassinations has any honour in it, and those who adopt such tactics are without mana and are no better than scum.

Well, you’ve ‘owned’ us!

You’ve made up radioactive and hateful slander and publicised it, so what now you champions of morality? You freedom fighting down trodden who were forced to confront your privilege and spent a lifetime resenting that flicker of insight and objective judgement?

What lies and terrible things will you dream up to justify the fucking horrible mutations you have become?

I’m the first to criticise Tory Whanau for her policies, and I am the loudest in denouncing woke dogma, but sweet Jesus, what Chung has done here is so grotesque, so NZF-Hate-Troll-Rhys-Williams level obscene that it demands contempt.

There is simply no place in NZ politics for these kids of sexual political smear jobs. This arsehole has no evidence whatsoever of the disgusting smears he’s made against Whanau, we saw the exact same kind of tactics against Benjamin Doyle.

Terrible allegations of a sexual nature with zero evidence.

Ray Chung and all the Right Wing Hate Trolls he associates with should be considered radioactively toxic and they should be viewed with total contempt.

To make up these allegations about peoples sexuality with no evidence whatsoever is just so fucking ugly.

Look, there are plenty of legitimate ares we can disagree civilly with Tory Whanau over, this kind of lewd garbage is disgraceful and we should have zero tolerance for it.

Ugly, ugly, ugly politics by monstrous people.

Surely the fact he’d stoop to this is enough of a reason for fair minded people to turn away in disgust?

If you are in Wellington, you have an obligation to confront Ray Chung anytime you see him in public.
