  1. I had 2 teeth fixed and it was $600 At the time the dentist noticed another tooth that needed work .The earliest appointment I could get for a 15 min job was 6 weeks away . The cost anther $500 . This clinic has 4 full time dentists . I would love to see free or subsidised dentistry but image the delay if this was introduced. As with all medical jobs we need to invest time and money in building up our own people to fill these roles . The cost needs to be made so that it is not the barrier to many . Which ever party is in power we need a different approach because what has gone before is not working .

  2. I rang last week for an appointment with my dentist . There are a few dentists in the practice but still a wait until 8th Dec .Imaging the wait if it was free .It is a good idea and certainly warrent the cost but like in so many areas there is just enough trained people and this country is now not attractive to immegrants due to the difficulty to get in with family

  3. With the cost of toothpaste & brushes dental care is almost free & people should have enough knowledge to look after their teeth so while cheaper dental care would be nice I would like to see some sort of responsibility guidelines that encourage better dental habits by the population included somehow. Your insurance will not pay out if you deliberately damage any insured items so it is wasteful to expect taxpayers to pay for dental care when people make no effort to look after their own oral health. I can see that this is a bit of a slippery slope so maybe we should settle for a sugar tax & Fluoride in the water as ways to reduce the burden.

  4. If Labour ran on universal dental as their main policy in 2023 , labour and the greens would win a majority.

People who hate labour but can’t afford a dentist would vote for them on this policy.

If Ardern wants a lasting legacy for helping Maori and poor people THIS is it.

A billion a year is a pittance, we’ve spent that on three waters consultation alone, we spent tens of millions on the doomed harbour bridge consultation, just slash the consultant /advisor slush fund.

A billion a year is nothing, they’ve spent billions on restructures to the health system that won’t improve a single patients healthcare experience

If they want a third term and a popular legacy policy, universal dental is it.

Do it Labour ffs you can help poor people and Maori in one go AND ITS YOUR POLICY ALREADY.

  5. There is no money left…after handing lollies to “electric virtue signal in my driveway” buyers.
Not to mention 1.3B commited to public transport ticketing and similar amount paid to all sorts of “consultants” .

How about making those freeloading water bottlers and sugary drinks peddlers, superprofiteering banks and supermarket chains pay for subsidised dental care?

It does not have to be free, just very affordable.

  6. I would say Labour’s policies match it’s leader all show and no go .The poor get poorer and the sick are getting sicker .Nurses teachers fireman all need more money because of the run away cost of living. I will put in a plug for pensioners who are existing on a fixed income with inflation running away with the money that was meant to tide us over in old age .
