I have found people I feel drawn to in the people serving and making the food in takeaways. They are in tune with their customers,, they work hard, they earn their income personally. They have come here adventurously and bravely and are true people, not mere spectators. The franchisers not so much. I have regular takeaways and get to know the families. I believe we need to respectfully enjoy each others company and culture, and exchange our gifts on the smaller level, not nations specialising in one thing; economists’ concept good not stripped to the bone.
Soon will try and get a circle of different nationalities in takeaways and encourage them to put on evening feasts showing videos of one of their countries, eating the food, having the music, and encourage the wider public to these regular evenings, instead of travelling around the world to go there. Then we could be more global and leave the space monkeys to drift with their weightless brains and bodies beyond, out of our space. That’s my belief – that we are unrealised miracles; discover ourselves and our powers personally, hold them in care and restraint,. or die ignominiously. As Tom Lehrer says portentously ‘We will all go together when we go.’
