  1. Martyn, 1000% we agree.

    We must tax the commercial media to fund a “commercial free” independent media now as we need a complete media platform so the public can finally have the voices Jacinda promed us in her pre-election speech at the Auckland town hall when she said;
    quote; “we will give every person a voice to be heard by our Government”.

  2. Once they discover that a great many people not only won’t pay for content, but will be pleased it is out of harms way, they will make it free again because if you aren’t going to make money either way, you might as well continue to be an influencer

  3. -Jokes aside, it’s telling that the NZ Herald would risk losing its political and cultural influence just to make a buck.-

    Hahaha! That’s neo-liberalism for you…

    On a happier note:

    Congratulations NZ Harald. You’ve managed to achieve what Donald Trump couldn’t…

    You built a wall! 🙂

  4. I heard yesterday on RNZ that the subscription charge will be $5.00/week. So: might as well continue to get the paper copy, dreadful little rag that it is.

    “Lizzie is an important voice saying the same thing forever and her amazing content should be behind a paywall.”

    She is so earnest and humourless; behind a paywall is where she needs to be. Subscribers can continue the tradition of not reading anything that she writes.

  5. It will be even more beneficial, if NZH also put its dodgy benefactor and mentor Natz behind the proposed paywall as well. That will take msm some way to becoming a source of information, instead of influence.

    1. 1000% MARY_ A.

      Perhaps Steven Joyce ‘the ultimate propagandist’ is behind that paywall too?

  6. I see NZH’s paywall has started today. I held my nose and scrolled through what was considered “premium” news today. Audrey Young’s piece was one and a few others also of no significance, plus quite a bit of sport. What was left was the usual stale, month old rubbish.Yawn!
