Amazon’s $7.5b NZ data centre plan questioned over job, GDP claims
Amazon’s big announcement with the backing of the PM has grabbed headlines, but additional details are casting doubt on claims of a boost to jobs and GDP.
The major political parties are clashing over whether anyone can take credit for what’s been billed as the biggest publicly announced investment by an international tech firm in New Zealand’s history – so big the Tuesday announcement seemed in many ways to be the same as one from 2021.
Questions being raised are as fundamental as whether the data centres promised back then are even real.
…there aren’t any new buildings, there aren’t any 1000 new jobs and the supposed $7.5b investment is now over 15 years.
Add to this the report that Big Tech are paying crumbs in tax…

China has a communist system where corporation don’t fleece their government for favors where their population doesn’t suffer severe homelessness like NZ and other western country practicing democracy and their banks are own by the Chinese state and their shareholders are the Chinese people. It occurred to me he was a clued up academic and civil servant who didn’t pretend enough, wanted to find what the firm ground was under the shifting wraiths of ghostly and ghastly government policy.
