Mānawa Bay: Auckland Airport mall delays flights as crew caught in traffic – airlines
Airlines are frustrated by traffic congestion caused by Auckland Airport’s Mānawa Bay outlet centre and say some flights have been delayed.
The Board of Airline Representatives said crew and ground handlers were caught up in traffic chaos at the weekend, described as “appalling” by some visitors to the new shopping centre.
“Airline and ground handlers saw staff caught up in congested roads – with some resorting to using bus lanes in an effort to get to work. Customers were caught up in traffic congestion – many were first delayed getting to park and ride locations, and then delayed again trying to catch buses to the terminals,” said the board’s executive director Cath O’Brien.
The new $200-million-plus centre opened on Thursday and despite preparation to minimise delays by the airport company, traffic was jammed at the weekend and the area was busy again today with bottlenecks on the main approach to airport.
O’Brien said airlines worked hard to accommodate customers who arrived late to the terminal.

Isn’t it a type of sickness watching consumer zombies wander the Malls of consumption, desperately trying to fill the empty hollowness of their existence with a bargain they’ve been brainwashed into believing will make them happy?

How insane is it that we have a barely functioning public transport link to the Airport and it is being blocked by a fucking Mall?

Sadly Martyn the one thing you can expect to see more of is trash as council continues it’s staged exit from waste management with the continuing removal of rubbish bins from public spaces and the move to fortnightly household bin collection. At least there will be something to look at while we are all stuck in the permagridlock I suppose.
Many malls around the world are now relics and abandoned–but not in the Supercity it seems! Sylvia Park caused traffic chaos when first opened but calmed down over time, but…the Airport route is pretty traffic limited…so welcome to your nightmare Orcland!

The result of never ending retail stupidity of the NZ public .They have no money to spare but because a new mall opens they drive across town to spend up to the limit on pay later schemes .So while they all flock to the new mall the other ones are empty because in reality there are only the same number of customers to go round .Once thing settle down every mall will have fewer customers than before .
