  1. I’m all for socialism but it just never seems to work. We tax and tax until we can tax no more then get swept aside because of financial incompetence. It’s an endless cycle.

    1. Sweetheart don’t worry your head about it all – you won’t understand it and it is time for you to concentrate more on yourself, family and friends and shoring up your resources while others wrestle with efforts to save us all from being sucked into the bog, trapped under water
burned out of our homes, frozen, roasted, starved or carried away by untreated diseases of civilisation such as cholera, typhoid, blue babies from chemical pollution etc …

    2. Huh? We have some of the lowest taxes in the world and just because it says Labour on the campaign posters doesn’t mean they’re socialists.

Oh wait, that matches perfectly – we actually have a low taxing, right wing government in power at the moment. The last socialist government we had in this country was under Muldoon, crazyas that sounds.

  2. From the Herald:

“The latest International Monetary Fund data projects the NZ economy to have the second-lowest GDP growth in the world in 2024, placing us in 159th place out of 160 countries, alongside Italy. Fortunately, we were beaten into last place by Equatorial Guinea.

Just consider that. That means our GDP outlook for 2024 is worse than almost every basket-case economy, every war-torn country, every collapsing state, except for one. Worse than Zimbabwe, Greece or Venezuela.”

That’s why we need a new government.

    1. I’d suggest it’s why NZ needs a new electoral system. Labour and National are the same, they both adhere to the orthodoxy and subscribe to the beige belief system of incrementalism. Clark to Key to Ardern, it’s all the same.

MMP has clearly failed to deliver anything other than stasis. Even with an unprecedented majority Labour were not able to transform anything other than Jacinda’s net worth.

MMP is designed to prevent political party dominance so all that’s happened is that the blob / swamp / PMC have taken control and act in their best interests. The needs of the people have been forgotten.

First past the post may well have delivered crazy outcomes from time to time but at least it forced change and had MP’s beholden to their electorates rather than the party.

ACT are the closest we’ve come to having a party that promises ‘real change’ and their message is resonating with the electorate like never before. At the same time the establishment (I hate that term) is shitting itself.

If ACT get in and do 1/3 of what they want to do they will shatter the accepted equilibrium and in doing so pull back the curtain on everything. NZ will get to see that the Wizard is a fraud and then who knows what will happen but my guess is that it won’t be good for the apparatchiks and their little helpers.

It might be good for NZ, it might not be. Only time will tell but NZ is like the proverbial frog in a pot of water slowly rising to the boil. Something needs to change as if it doesn’t, well it’s just going to get worse.

  3. The soccer Mum’s and house husband s have come off the high of the Football World Cup and now they are bitter and angry at the state of the household bills.
